newtech : I did the test and the multiplier drop works like with the EIST (if it's not it) when the cpu is idle. When it's in charge it switch from x6 to x7 (2.4ghz to 2.8).

So, to return to my interrogation, is any new Mac Pro owner here who have windows running on bootcamp here ?? I've PMed some people here but nobody could help me about the famous mainboard version :(

I would think...

I would think, based on the definition of prototype, that once it comes standard in a mac, is no longer a prototype. It is...

UNLESS IT IS PREPARING FOR SOMETHING TO COME...

Perhaps the apocalypse?

Yes I am running Win XP-Pro with bootcamp, what's your question?

i'd think it more likely that Proto is short for Prototype than Pro Tower .... If it were Pro-Tower, i'd expect to see a capital 'T' so it would read ProTo1

but anyways .... what about that single socket .... lets see some pictures of the spare.

Absolutely. I'll post them tonight or tomorrow morning. Cheers.
Thanks a lot man :)

So, I have run Everest from Lavalys, and apparently the string "Proto1" is an information given by the DMI. Isn't the DMI a thing usually stocked into the Bios ? The bios that the macpro doesn't have.

Ok, I found : Hardware Monitor. In "Window>Show System Info>Management Info>System Board" we can see the board version. I'll verify it later, i'm on my macbook atm.
If in the wait someones could check it too, it would be great.

edit : Proto1 too...

I install XP and run CPUZ but CPUZ can't recognize any information on my MP

So sadd~~~

but I don't care ,I format that partition and using only leopard again 5555

Quite certain, check the intel literature. Core 2 Extreme such as Q6600 and Q6850 are not clock locked, but ALL 5000 sequence Xeons are locked.

You might want to check the literature too:

Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5400 Series supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology. This technology enables the processor to switch between multiple frequency and voltage points, which results in platform power savings. Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology requires support for dynamic VID transitions in the platform. Switching between voltage/frequency states is software controlled.
