Why do people like a wireless keyboard?
Is it just about the aesthetic, or are people taking their keyboard away from the desk? Or more than a regular cable length away from the computer?

I have a classic (wired) IBM PC keyboard, and 2 spares in a cupboard!
For me it's aesthetic. But I've switched to a desk that would hide the cable now anyways (thus my comment above about thinking about buying a Unicomp USB)

Clearly, Apple disagrees. Relatively speaking, as far as growth markets go, they seem to think that numpads have started mattering less.

Apple not necessarily disagrees that there are more people inputting numbers. It's just that they only care about the lowest common denominator.

Um.... No Touch ID? Why does it take so damn long for the entire product line to "catch up". Sure, Touch ID isn't even integrated in any of the Mac apps yet but why not? Let's see some real upgrades. Oh! And yes, I really hope there is a NUM pad-- I know it's not something everyone uses but it sure would be nice to have by default.

It'll be nice to just recharge the keyboard and mouse now however.... Price will be the deciding factor of I ditch my existing one.

I agree everyone has their own needs, but I'm not sure why you're getting so agitated that mine are different from yours. Look at how I presented my opinion in the post you're responding to: "I think", "I suppose", "it seems weird". More or less relevant in my opinion, never irrelevant. Nobody's invalidating your preferences here...

Besides, did you get to the part about the "freaking tray" solution costing $100 and not actually working without going at it with power tools? Somewhere around that post I also mention that I have a perfectly functional solution with an older version of the wireless keyboard. Sky's not falling-- sorry if I gave that impression.

And you understand that the thread is about a possible upcoming Apple product-- it seems a little premature to come down on me for not accepting a kludgy solution to a problem you're only hoping i have sometime in the future. I may still get my wish, in which case I'd be building a $150 Franken-keyboard for naught.

Agitated? Sorry you lead such a sheltered life to think I was agitated. Claiming a recommended solution is too big while calling the keyboard tiny smacks of trolling. There are other options to put a keyboard together with with a trackpad/numbers pad is easy and this one is 21.00 plus. You said you leave it on the desk so unless it's a troll post a tray is not even necessary:

http://www.amazon.com/Twelve-South-MagicWand-Connects-Trackpad/dp/B004L9M0AO

30.00 for a tray one

http://www.amazon.com/MeshWe-Connects-Trackpad-Wireless-Keyboard/dp/B006M7IDTA

25.00 another tray one

http://hengedocks.com/products/clique-magic-trackpad-and-wireless-keyboard-dock

Magic numpad 30.00

There are reasonably priced solutions out there but only for someone that is actually looking for one. Not to mention being willing to shell out for a new (non existing) keyboard and not a solution to fix your current one also smacks of not being serious.

+1 for numpad. Don't know why you wouldn't want one, it's the sole reason I don't have a BT kb.

Also would be nice if Apple made a nice mechanical keyboard again. Ha! Yeah right...

Yep, much easier for someone to add numpad to their trackpad. I would prefer this to having it attached to the keyboard and if apple does release a bt keyboard with numbers pad built in it will probably go up to 100.00 or so.

I think apple would actually lose keyboard if they built in the numbers pad, I would have gotten something else. If they had the wired keyboard without numbers pad I would have one of them also.

I could see it being beneficial to sell both models, but I think there is a lot of people out there like the bt keyboard because it's like their laptop. Adding something would change that.

It's just easier to add a number pad than remove one that is built in. It makes more sense this way.

I did not mean that they should prefer a numpad version to a small one, but that before they made both keyboard types.

I'n not actually sure what you are saying but in the case of a bt keyboard there is not both types. This to me would be better than having the numbers keys built in anyway. I also hook my mac mini to the tv and take the keyboard with me, I would prefer not having the numbers keys along and numpad is they way to go if you want a numbers pad.

To be fair, I think all those connectors would have trouble with the Belkin numpad bulge, and that what one would need to attach it is the LMP 9061.

And the sticker that you linked has bad reviews.

I meant that they had both in the case of USB.

For me it is simply one less cable to get tangled up. Less is more.

Not even the new MacBook, which is a redesign from the ground up — new keyboard design, new trackpad, new form factor, new colors, etc. — has Touch ID. Either Apple thinks it's not a relevant feature on the Mac, or they haven't found a way to implement it that they're happy with just yet.

Arguably, it's less crucial than on iOS: Macs are typically used with physical keyboards, where password entry is much faster than on, especially, a phone.

I could care less about battery life. I plug it into the computer to charge it if necessary.

If charging worked like that, I wouldn't mind if it went wireless. But I wouldn't want another set of batteries to deal with. Sometimes I wish my Magic Trackpad wasn't Bluetooth for similar reasons. But it's a moot point, I think. It may be "2015" but people who need/want a full sized keyboard are a minority. I'll be surprised if Apple updates it again.

I've had my Apple Wireless Keyboard since 2007. For how long will these lithium batteries be good?

No idea, but I imagine Apple felt that the switch to LE made it become feasible. And if they do run dry, I'm sure it will be possible to replace them just like you can replace MBP batteries. If not, in ten years you'll just have wired peripherals instead.

Because it makes sense to pay Apple $100, instead of a few bucks every couple years.

Well, it's not a sticker and 3.5 out of 5 is not really bad.

Here's another option for 20.00 with reviews as good as the magic trackpad itself.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=07WV27S3831SZG2AWN5J

This one also, better version 35.00

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=07WV27S3831SZG2AWN5J

As for the reviews on the numpad, they are far better than the reviews for the apple lightning cable

http://www.apple.com/shop/reviews/MD818AM/A/lightning-to-usb-cable

The same as the magic mouse

http://www.apple.com/shop/reviews/MB829LL/A/apple-magic-mouse

The same as the bt keyboard

http://www.apple.com/shop/reviews/MC184LL/B/apple-wireless-keyboard-english

So do you really want a solution?

So do you really want a solution?

I already posted in my answer a clean solution that I have to try to attach both the Belkin and the Trackpad at the same time.

$100 is nearly what Apple charges for its huge MacBook battery repairs. Wouldn't be that much. Anyway, I doubt most people would ever need to change it. LE will probably allow it to last the lifetime of the device.

AFAIK $99 was the cost of an iPod battery change, that's where the number came from.
