I see most posters manage to skirt round the fact that the MM sucks the life out of batteries big time.

I mentioned it but I don't make too big a deal of it because I presume it has to do with the fact that it's using an old Bluetooth protocol. Most mice with better battery life are using some other wireless protocol or a newer, low-power version of Bluetooth. I would presume battery life will be better with the new model.

What a bunch of blather. I called your post a toll post as you contradicteded yourself, I replied to what you said and not to you personally. Agitated? Emotions? Neither applied and my aren't you a delicate little flower. Stop posting troll posts where you contradict yourself and they won't be called troll posts. You are also making false statements (lying actually) as I have read your posts to the end.

"You're bothered that I talked about the tray being "big" and the keyboard being "tiny". Perhaps I chose my words imprecisely, or was overly succinct, or god forbid, whimsical. Mea culpa. "

It was trolling, you contradicted yourself and got caught. That's what you are so upset about.

Doesn't matter, you are butt hurt over getting called out as you do not really want a solution. Ok, I did read this to the end even though most of it is rambling blather that has nothing to do with it. Better we put each other on ignore, though I doubt I would have to see them during school hours anyway. Adios, hasta nunca!

Yes, agitated. Caps locking words, not reading to the end of my replies, attacking me rather than my point, etc. You found a point you think you can call hypocritical and keep hammering on my integrity for having made it despite my efforts to explain further. I could have just called you a troll as you did me, but I chose "agitated" instead-- I honestly don't think you're trolling, I think that your emotions got the better of you.

So let me address that point first in the hopes that you'll read further to why I think this part of the argument is unnecessary. You're bothered that I talked about the tray being "big" and the keyboard being "tiny". Perhaps I chose my words imprecisely, or was overly succinct, or god forbid, whimsical. Mea culpa. In my defense, however, those weren't the only words I wrote on the subject-- you just chose to ignore the rest. It is not the physical size that concerns me, it is the fact that it takes a product that was designed to sit a certain way and adds material to it. Maybe saying that I'm using the older wireless keyboard (with number pad) is evidence that I'm a super-duper hypocrite complaining about the size of one thing while using something bigger-- or maybe it's evidence that my concern isn't merely the size and you're missing my point. I trust Apple's design; I trust 3rd party molded plastic less. I don't mind the keyboard being bigger if that size isn't counter to ergonomics. In truth, I think a larger keyboard is more ergonomic. The Amazon reviews, and the link I provided, however suggest that the added plastic of the Clique does affect the ergonomics of the trackpad and won't even hold the number pad.

Let me repeat that: it won't even hold the number pad. So can we stop arguing about that solution?

And yes, there are other ways of attaching other third party number pads to Apple keyboards-- including putting a $30 film on a $60 trackpad and using a $30 piece of plastic to bind them together with a $60 keyboard as you suggest. I've tried some of them, and found them lacking ergonomically or functionally. I also find it expensive.

If you'd bothered to look into the solutions you suggest, as I, the purported troll did, or just read my responses and links before attacking me for not liking them, you'd notice that all but that buttonless plastic film on trackpad solution won't work because they grab the trackpad by the battery bar-- where the Belkin has a lump.

There are also solutions from other manufacturers.
Or the solution I'm currently using.

Let me repeat that too: the solution I'm currently using. I've replied several times that I have a wireless keyboard with a number pad and yet you still accuse me of complaining, trolling, and not seriously looking for a solution. I think it's because you're agitated and you're not reading my full response past the point you think you can attack me.

All of this argument seems to overlook the point of this entire thread: Apple appears to be preparing to announce a new keyboard that we've only seen a sketch of the back of. I would be more likely to buy it if that keyboard has a number pad attached. I'm sorry if that opinion, or my willingness to discuss peoples thinking a bit deeper offends you, but there it is.

So many of these posts have made me smile especially those in relation to lit keyboards and carpal tunnel etc.

Back lit keyboards you say - well goodness knows how many of you would have faired when I first learned to type some forty years ago on a Remington manual typwriter. What you would have made of the 'carriage return', changing the 'ribbon' or the inclined heavy manual keys I cannot imagine.

When learning, the keys were completley covered so touch typing was the order of the day. I could manage 50 WPM on the old manual, 60 on a good day. At my best on a PC keyboard I could manage 110 WPM.

Forget lit keys and learn to touch type, you will never look back.

Lol, I had typing in school 40 some odd years ago. Changing the ribbon usually resulted in colored fingers. I do like a lighted keyboard though in darker areas as my eyes are not what they used to be but for the most part I still touch type. If I use the upper row I have to look though.

Here in mexico it's virtually impossible to get over a 65 watt bulb, the government has stopped the sale of them, unless they are the corkscrew ones and they are not the same plus a lot more expensive. Most people have dark houses.

I just hope they cure the rollerball on the MM2. All my Magic Mice have had the rollerball die on them. You can keep them going for a while with cleaning but sooner or later (usually sooner) the rollerball dies.

Hah, thats the Mighty Mouse you're on about. The Magic is a touch mouse.

I hated both mice. My MM went back in its box the day after getting my iMac. Hurt my hand. So I use a regular mouse.

It demands a completely different way of holding a mouse that, once you get used to it, works very well and it is hard to go back to a big mouse

No, it's awful. It causes my hand to cramp. It's a mouse designed for use by a 4yr old's tiny hands. I use a microsoft mouse because I can rest my hand.

What I'd love to see is a bluetooth keyboard with build in MagicPad in the same position as it is on my Macbook.

Wow, I was clearly wrong-- you were trolling... I mean you must be if you contradicted yourself, right?
To some of us a number pad is just extra space and weight.
I actually would not mind the keyboard being larger ... if it's made on to the keyboard those of us that do not need it cannot cut it off.
Sometimes you say you don't mind a bigger keyboard, and other times you would want to cut off the number pad because it takes extra space. You clearly don't want a solution. Wait, you didn't mean those statements in the way I'm saying you did? Your point was more nuanced? Now you're just upset because you contradicted yourself and got caught...

*sigh*

Seriously. Does a troll apologize for misunderstandings, try to clarify, and provide supporting evidence, or does a troll double down on an overly narrow interpretation and respond with vitriol? Now look at each of our responses in the thread history and re-evaluate.

I think most serious users of keyboards and mice i.e. business, realise that the MM and small keyboard are not serious business tools but consumer peripherals for the home user. Like a lot of Apple kit they are fashion statements.

There's no shame in that so long as they are not touted otherwise.

Apple Mice, always conceptually interesting but useless in practice compared to a Logitech one.
I use a logitech Performance MX. Between the ergonomics and the thumb buttons, it would be incredibly hard to switch to another mouse. The magic mouse makes my hand and wrist hurt after an hour or so. Using it 8 hours daily would not be good for me.

I also use a Logitech wireless keyboard because it's flat like Apple's and solar charged. I wish it was bluetooth though, and a little less squeaky. If Apple made a full sized wireless keyboard I'd buy one tomorrow.

A mouse is for people who are not able to learn to use the Trackpad. Once you use the trackpad, the mouse feels like crap.
Nope. The preference in Logic X "Limit dragging in one direction" is generally there as people using track pads have trouble moving objects around accurately in both the horizontal and vertical planes at the same time. I see this scenario often, the track pad is less accurate in many tasks. I use both and its pretty obvious.

I'm just amazed the "mouse" is still around. instead on scrapping it, we build onto of it.

I have my bluetooth wireless Apple keyboard somewhere in my dusty wardrobe.
As am I. the magic pad is so natural in comparison, especially with all the touch devices we're used to these days. I oftentimes wonder if people don't realize it'll do everything the macbook trackpads will do.

Does that small vertical line in the middle at the very top of the mouse suggest that it will have 2 buttons?
Hah I didn't notice that. There is also a mysterious bump on the keyboard (which is hopefully an on/off switch for a blacklight :p)

So, we're holding it wrong?
Bollocks
Noone's doing anything wrong. Well Except thinking they are the only ones right.

It's a good mouse, and after the Logitech mx the Apple mouse made my hand cramp. It took, indeed, a change in hand position, lighter feel/grip. Getting used to the different form factor. It wouldn't work if it were fatter anyway; touch surface wouldn't be accessible as easy.

Just.... Use the mouse you like best!

That is not Bluetooth. I cannot stand when Logitech does that. I can understand for gaming peripherals and crappy PCs, but not in general.

I don't think it is aluminium either, if I'm going to be picky like a fanboy.

It's plastic, and I didn't think I was going to like it at first either, but I love it. My office is usually dark to but it always works.
