Hello just got into this MBA world and I LOVE my MBA, just one quick question. I am happy 95% just want to know if it is OK to use this continuously throughout the day I see that the keyboard rest area seems to get a little warm, when I see this I will just shut down for a while. But just want to know if this is normal, I am sure there is no fan in this thing (maybe there is) but just asking about the safety of the usage.

Abdulah

Two things:
  1. There is no such thing as a "2018 11-inch MacBook Air" - the 11-inch was gone by 2017. What model/year does it say in About This Mac?
  2. Yes, all 11-inch MBAs have fans
Old MacBooks (MBAs and MBPs) tend to get very hot even under light load. Maybe yours is just another one of those that gets hot easily.

As far as the "safety of the usage," it's perfectly fine.

OH I talked to the old owner he told me he bought it in 202 it is actually a later 2015 model I guess so it is pretty damn old I guess, maybe I got scammed. I thought maybe 4 years was not bad, but 7 years is bad. Damn

Lesson learned. So is this still a good MBA to use, even though it is a late 2016 model?

I just paid 350 USD for this machine, I am not a heavy user just Powerpoints, Word, and email, and surf the web.

Thanks.

Yeah, still good to use. Model really doesn't matter if you are just doing light tasks like Powerpoint.

My wife still uses her mid 2013 11" MBA and loves it. I can't get her to upgrade, every other laptop is bigger. Only used for browsing, emails, word etc. She has a work windows laptop 15" and it is massive and heavy, she hates it.

Yea I too have a (excuse my language here) PC with Windows 11 and to be 100 I HATE it Windows 11 (there I go again with the language) is so bad, so many bugs. I LOVE my MBA just wish had a bigger HDD and 8/256 ram vs the 4/128 that this one has but hey cant complain over spilled milk.

The final model year for the 11-inch MacBook Air was in 2015. I have that model and have been using it since 2017 (right now it's my backup computer) and it works perfectly for basic tasks. My first Mac was a 2010 11-inch Air, so it holds a special place for me and will probably never sell this machine.

If you're interested in beefing it up a bit, you could upgrade it if you're able. I bought a 256GB SSD a few years ago and this year I replaced the logic board with a 2.2GHz i7 model with 8GB of RAM (the logic board cost about $120 on eBay). These two upgrades have improved performance and it's still a snappy machine. Just make sure not to strip any screws when taking it apart!

Im typing this a MacBook air late 2010 and even stream sports on this great laptop
In january, the MBA was used to photo edit for 2 weeks without a flaw.

no ,this MacBook air will still perform great!

what you ned to do i click the upper left  logo (apple logo)
about this mac will tell you everything you need.

you could upgrade the ssd drive and use a newer Operating system like Monterey.
if you are lucky you could have a i7 hinterland processor, but you might have a i5.

if you need any help or any advice, many here will still use older MBA that this one.

have fun!

I picked up my Early 2015 11-inch i7/8GB air for $100 on eBay because the seller could not get the laptop to power on so they put it for sale as a "parts" laptop. I purchased it, connected the laptop to an AC source using a spare AC adapter I had and after a few hours performed an SMC reset and my laptop fired right up. I have since installed a 1TB NVMe M.2 storage drive with a Sintech adapter and have Mac OS 12 Monterey installed. It performes very well and I use this laptop today. :)

What I love about the Air is that the battery is so much easier to replace than the batteries on the Retina MBP. A few screws, unplug the battery from the logic board and swap. It is that easy... I also love just how fast and light this laptop is using the NVMe storage drive.

These laptops will run a little on the warm side. This is perfectly normal and not of concern. What you can do if you want is to take off the CPU heat sink and refresh the CPU thermal paste. It is very easy to do and whenever I source my laptops from eBay (see sig below) I always refresh the CPU thermal paste. Peace of mind that way.

How long do you find the new batteries last after you install them? I assume they are 3rd party.
