No.

We will see a CPU upgrade option (more expensive), but a whole refreshed line.

And that's with a 1080p antiglare. Blu ray. And a more powerful 6770m. And 6 GB RAM.

Specs have never been a Mac's strong point. Design/form/styling has.

A great keyboard and a godsend trackpad. Those are strong points. The world renown spot-from-half-way-across-the-room half bitten Apple moniker. Yes.

Specs? No. Bang for buck? No.

This is all I was trying to say. And I think that Apple can do a better job on the specs and price. Let's say for argument's sake that the refresh cycle will never change ... fine. I just wish Apple didn't charge more for the same exact hardware upgrades.

Will they change? Probably not. And the result is that it dissuades me (and I think others) from either switching to Mac or in my case upgrading computers more often.

Apple prices are kinda justified, MBPs have a better brand image, a whole different OS, better usability, and so much other stuff. Specs aren't apples strong point, but the money they charge us sort if justified.

hopefully there will be still a 13" macbook pro after the update............

what do you think will apple do with the 13" mbp? I'm planning to buy one of those crazy little laptops in October, as I'll have enough time to set up my new machine then... My need of power is not satisfied by a macbook air, but the 15" mbp is too expensive, and simply too big...

It's dangerous to wait?

I believe you when you say that there's gonna be a new MBP before the end of this year. If you ask me, I think that it's gonna be announced at a media event on 8 september (it's the day after the new SB processors are officially out).

And I think that it will be an upgrade where Apple looses the optical drive, and a new design and ssd + hdd combined standard where you can upgrade the capacity of the ssd and the hdd from 5400 rpm to 7200 rpm or an extra ssd :)

and I hope more battery life :p
and i hope a better, faster GPU :D

It's 26/27 weeks or so until February 2012, what if there's not a redeisnged MBP out until June?

When Apple refreshed the MBP design to their current iteration, remember the actual hardware upgrade was relatively negligible. I remember more than a few people complaining about paying a premium for old tech in shiny new case.

I'm not suggesting they are refreshing this autumn, but if the rumoured case redesign is going forward, it might do so before a significant processor change.

I hope it's that way...
So I can buy a cool brand new on e before college :p

Not dangerous at all. Even if they drop the model, you would be able to pick it up as a closeout or refurb at a reduced price. I got my Aluminum MacBook that way, when it was dropped, at 33% of at the refurb store. If the 13" MBP is dropped later this year I'd probably buy one even though my Al MB is still good just because the features of the 13" MBP best suit my needs of all the Apple notebooks.

You just never know about Apple's refresh timeline, especially on the Mac line. There really seems to be very little rhyme or reason for when releases come about or what technologies they include/omit.

I'm very guilty at playing the wait-for-this-or-that game in technology; but I wanted a MBPro so I got a MBPro last weekend, rather than belabor myself with the waiting/what-if game. And I'm all the happier for it, regardless if Apple updates the Pro line this fall.

I wanted a MBPro, so I got the MBPro--and now I'm happily productive with it. Period. Life is good.

Just go get it and move on--nothing Earth-shattering worth waiting for will come now at least until Ivy Bridge processors/chipset towards summer of next year.

Hmm true, so you're going to be OK if your MBP becomes 'out of date' in a few months?

I'd rather wait 7 months and have the money to be able to afford the 17" anti-glare than buy something now.

I have a bud who decided to get an iPad 2 a month ago, who at that time was gonna wait for the new one supposedly up for release this fall.

Turns out last week now that the new iPad is officially delayed until early 2012; he would have waited a whole month of salivating over the new iPad release for nothing.

You just never ever know. If you want something, bite the bullet. If something updated really does come out within like 30 days, many stores will allow you to return it anyways (even worth the small restock fee).

True, the MBP I purchase next year will be my first Mac. So I'd rather wait 2-6 months than spend £2,100 (or whatever the 17" costs).

I don't want to buy something and spend that much money on something if there's a new release coming out tomorrow. With Apple you just never know.
