Hmmm....decisions, decisions....

I was planning on buying a 13" MBP at the Apple Store using Mom's State Employee Discount ($100) $1186.92. Now we have refurbs $1019, $1100.52 after taxes. $86 more for the pretty box and the honor of walking out of the Apple Store with my first Mac!

That would be fantastic, i dont feel like driving all the way to philly(2 hrs) to save 30 bucks.

A good deal.

I ordered my MBP13 refurbished 3 days ago (I think I was among the first ones...) and I've got it this morning.

The AirPort card was dead. Reset, hard reset, reset pram... nothing was working.

I went to the apple store and the genius connected the clam shell usb and told me the card was dead. He said: "wait here a minute". Left and came back with a brand new one. "Sorry for the inconvenience, here is your new MBP" - he said.

Now I've the box too. The refurb came in a horrible brown box with the magsafe in a plastic bag...

haha nice story. You got a new mbp though so that's cool :)

I bought my first MBP (Late 2008 2.8ghz 15¨) as a refurb and i got no complaints at all. Its cheaper and they come with the same warranty as new. Sold it a couple of months ago in order to get a 13", which will be a refurb aswell.

cheers

Ah great deal!!! Interesting that it only took a month or so for these to pop up. Maybe when I buy my next MBP in 24 months or so, I'll hold off a month to get the great refurb deals!

You don't get a free iPod with refurbs.

Just a friendly FYI, I never said that there was. I mentioned that there were no more 2.4ghz available, and that my only option was the microcenter deal or a new one with free iPod. So no one go buying a refurb and think they're gonna get a rebate for an iPod on account of me :p

Anybody happen to know if Best Buy is price matching the Microcenter deal?

Since there were no refurb 320m models, I found a ride to the Santa Clara Microcenter and they had over 30 in stock. I'm not sure if Best Buy would match, because I'm sure they can make up any excuses not too, but if it's local(like same zip code) and you bring in the printed ad(they usually won't match websites), there's very little for them to argue against.

I wish I could take advantage of the 15" i5s, but 15" is way too big for me, and I love the battery life and portability of this 13" :D

Last gen core 2 duo 15" is the same price as the base i5 15"

.....Am I missing something here?

FWIW....Best Buy is price matching that Microcenter deal. Just picked up the 13" MBP for $999.

Great. I just ordered one last night for $1019. Hopefully my luck will be better than yours, but I too would like the new box!
Since this will be my first Mac, I will probably bring it straight to the Apple Store to make sure everything works!

I was going to go with a 15" i5 with Hi-Res AG from the Education store but I was just planning on selling the iPod. The refurb is about $100 cheaper than the education price...that means a $300 price difference up front and I don't have to try and sell the iPod and wait for a rebate...

I'm not buying anything till my state's tax free holiday in August though.

I bought my 13' 2009 uMBP refurbed - it is great! not a single problem, no cosmetic issues either.

And yes, you can still get applecare with it

to me it is the ONLY way to go, unless you want to do the iPod touch deal

I agree. The only new ones I buy are from microcenter when they drop entry level 13 MBP by $200.

Cheers,

No 13" 2.4ghz :( Oh well that microcenter deal is still going on. Just gotta decide if i want that or the free iPod Touch.

You can't stack free iPod Touch with refurb. You NEED to buy the Macbook at educational discount price.... and when you do the math it doesn't quite make sense when compared to the Microcenter deal.

You shouldn't get the 8gig since it has the gimped guts so you NEED to get the 32gb to make the iPod Touch deal really worth it. That's $100 dollars. Now factor in the difference between Microcenter's price with the educational deal. That's another $100 (well a little more depending on tax). Then there's tax, Apple doesn't reimburse you for that, so that's another $20-$30 so after the rebate you'd be getting a 32gb iTouch for $230+ that's about 70 dollars cheaper than from Amazon (which is great) but you also have to remember the iPhone and OS4 just came out and there are all sorts of rumors about iTouch with camera..... so the new iTouch coming out this fall might really be a major leap in technology compared to the iTouch you JUST got.

*shrug* my 2 cent.

Dead pixel problems?

How are these regarding deal pixels? I imagine quite a few machines returned for that would be packaged back up as long as they fall under Apple's (internal) acceptance policy. And I imagine there wouldn't be as much leniency swapping a refurb in those cases.

Mine was perfect. Even came in a pretty nice white box with everything wrapped up just like new.

The reading comprehension in this post is laughable. Some of you should be more concerned with that than sounding like a smart guy on the Internet.

*Goes back to enjoying his new MBP from microcenter, NOT from the refurb store(which I already mentioned was sold out) and NOT from an apple store with discount+iPod. See how I again did NOT mention anything about refurb store rebates?
