I do a substantial amount of computer purchasing for my company - albeit from Dell. My Dell rep has told me that the mobile Penryn processors will be available to order from Dell starting on the 21st (tomorrow).

So the supply issue from Intel appears to be getting fixed.

I'm just hopeful that the new MBP's will be coming shortly now that the processors will be available...

The Linkin Park relationship to the MBP could be that bands that use a lot of samples and looping tend to use a program like Ableton Live while performing, and more often than not they're running it on an MBP or similar...the MBP really is a musician's best friend.

Not sure I'm sold on the Thursday theory though...I wanna believe! I can't hold onto this tax $ much longer!!!

Let us drink our milkshakes Steve!

i hope this thread is right and they are released tomorrow...but i kinda doubt it.

Based on everything I'm reading (LP, shipping dates, etc.) I'm still set to it being released before the end of next week (Friday).

Thursday? Hmm, I guess it could happen. After all there was the Friday 6/29 release of the iPhone.
Dell released it's Penryn notebooks today, now apple can bring their design to marked without having to worry as much about copy cats. With the shuffle and other iPortables updated the only products left to be updated are the MBP and MB. Soon yes, thursday not likely.

This whole "special event" thing could be anything. Perhaps its a special "webcast" event. Probably an end to iTunes DRM, lower ipod costs to spur sales? And the inevitable iPhone SDK.

As for the new Macbook Pro. I don't think a special event is really necessary for an update. The new update will be a product refinement, nothing revoluntionary. It will prob get the multi-touch, new penryn and perhaps a new graphics card. Among other small things. It's nothing to spend a ton of $ on a special event. And while i'm a devoute MBP fan, we're not Apples mass market customers. Those are the iPod and iPhone.

it seems that the apple store claims they can ship within 24 hours.. now i'm confused!

Well the main page says 24 hours, BUT if you add a macbook pro to your cart on the apple store, and then pretend to start purchasing it at the bottom of the page, it tells you the expected shipping details, which are sometimes quite long, but currently are "ships Feb. 21-25". I think people are more referring to low in-store stock and the fact that people's order's are being delayed over and over.

I just hope one day they just pop up, somewhat unexpected... like tomorrow... that would be nice!

it's the 21st already.. Eastern time... oh well... another theory down the drain..." we're now accepting the next person in line"
i'm sorry ma'am, someone already claimed the 26th of feb.. and the tuesdays of marched are fully booked as well, do you want to try tues of april?:D:D:D

These threads are like a broken record.

Months ago, we probably started this thread every Sunday, speculating on the release of a new MBP the following Tuesday.

It'll come when time comes.

anyone else think LP is pulling a tiny code "I working with apple in secret" fake just for fun? for sure any hint at a concert with apple would be against some non disclosure agreement...

apple doesn't update there site till around 8am ne ways.. this might be true.
If apple doesn't give us a MBP by next tues, I'm getting myself a blackbook.

Never buy first revisions of new Apple portables remember the 1st core duo's overheating due to sloppy builds?

If you need a fast laptop get the SR MBP, they are solid minus the few issues floating around aka "ELP" and airport dropping out which are more likely the result of shoody code.Very few people truly need the power we have now, except power users(Audio/Video) a Penryn based system is not going to make safari any snappier:D

Sure the bragging rights are cool but 3 mos later your back on the bottom again:eek:

I think you'll find that Penryn will have little or no problems at all because it will be the last SR processor before the update to the montevina chipset. So it should be a near seamless update (hopefully).

Please correst me if I am wrong.

Gus...

I agree, and that is why I ordered mine a few days ago. If it is a new chipset, I doubt I would ever know the difference. :D
