I thought so too, but watching the Keynote, they were on the highlighted title slides... like "okay, now a look at the messaging app..." and you'd see the new icon with the lines... looks like it was meant to be that way.

Possibly. I still think it shows that they're having to work on these because these are the apps where I've had the most issues.

What? Who the heck are the people who LIKE the current one!?

Seriously? You think having "SMS" across there made it good? You don't think it's the worst icon on the iPhone?

Well, ok. Here you go, I've improved the other icons to go with it!

Wow - so much better!

Wow, that's a terrible argument.

I don't think they will be there on the final version.. Maybe the keynote pic's were just a screen shot of the phone itself.. At least I hope so...

I made a mock up on what *I* think the new Messages icon should look like:

It's simple and clean.

get used to it or don't use it :)

What the heck is that supposed to mean? If you remember correctly... we're not allowed to delete default apps, so there's no "not using it" because it's always going to be on the screen to look at.

Anyone else here think the new Voice Memos app doesn't look like a standard Apple icon? It looks so out of place next to the bright, well designed icons.

Can anyone post a screenshot of these new icons you guys are talking about or would someone be able to email a screenshot (not trying to get anyone in trouble)?

why are you complaining? after waiting so long for them to come out with something to satisfy people they finally give you what you want and you wanna complain about what an icon looks like. this is one of the dumbest threads ive ever read.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw it too. It looks like a third party app icon. But whatever, when the jailbreak comes out, I'll just poof it away so I don't have to look at it. :)

Perhaps they haven't shown the new graphics to Steve yet... heh.

A lot of us Mac users coming to the iPhone are graphics-oriented people. We like good interface designs and Apple is usually good at providing top notch GUI quality. The fact is... looking at the new icons... they don't look like they belong next to the old icons. They don't look like the same people designed them that designed the original icons.

Maybe they're place-holders for right now and they're working on a new GUI design for the final 3.0 release. Who knows. Maybe even just a new springboard design.... or perhaps they're going to redesign ALL of the icons to be more like the new style.

I personally was hoping for a complete gui make-over for the 3.0, but oh well.. I think that they should have redesigned all of the icons or none of them. Hopefully since it's beta things will keep progressing and changing.

but thats part of what i dont get. its only a BETA we have no idea what the final touches will be and what they will look like.

I found this screenshot on another site:

Look how weird they look next to each other. Especially since they both used to be flat and now one has a 3D bubble on it with a drop shadow.
