Without the keyboard. It's 3.48lbs with.

Lighter without because it has no kickstand and no ports.
 
If I wanted to buy a windows device without doubt it would be a Microsoft hardware device, however I don't. The 950XL are a little too late to my party for me to get excited about either and its a shame as I generally like windows mobile devices but don't feel they have improved in areas important to me and continuum whilst an fascinating idea in principal doesn't excite me or interest me in practice.

No, they make that clear on the site. My fear is the tablet won't even have the battery life of the SP4, because it's lighter I'll bet it has less battery. I don't think they are positioning it as a tablet that's used standalone for an entire day though, but more something that you can take to lunch with you, or pop off and show something to someone or just to take notes on.

That's what I'm starting to think as well. Does it have 6 hours or 2 hours? Can't see it having any more than that given the weight/size ratio.
 
Did he say you could push 2 terabytes storage onto that phone? And liquid cooling in the phone?

surface laptop: insane, what an innovative company, and that's for a company not used to making hardware 5 years ago. I WISH they had a type cover for this and you could buy the hard keyboard separately as I'd rather have a larger tablet with type cover. It's just a wild laptop and the grumblings Apple hears about not having touchscreens on their laptops is about to become a deafening roar.

Lumia 950XL, holy crap, continuum is great, finally a full PC in my hand. Instead of going backwards like Apple, MS is going forward. That camera looks incredible. It's a bit boring with the polycarbonate back, but we get our removable battery and SD card back!!! I'm tied to google voice so it's going to be tough to make a decision, but if Google ever makes a GV app then I'm long gone. I'm impressed they fit all that into something the same size and thinness of the newest iphones, and that's with a larger and more dense screen. I was hoping for a "surface phone", vapor mag, kickstand, etc though, but I suppose it's not in the cards.

Hololens, jeez pretty incredible. I can't wait to have that experience in my living room.

I've always thought that the TypeCover was the best keyboard... period, but hampered with a mediocre trackpad. Looks like the latest iteration has corrected that issue.

Surface Book: I've had a taste of what that could be like with the Acer Aspire Switch 11. Obviously the SB is lightyears ahead in fit-n-finish and quality, but I have a good feel how it could fit into my use cases and workflow. Dang! I'm ready to sell off my stack of tablets and notebooks and getting a Surface Book. 😀

Completely wild guess here, but I'll say 3-4 hours real time, not specs. My SP3 gets about a solid 5-6 hours, but is rated at 9 hours, of course that depends what I'm doing and that means screen time. The SP4 seems to be rated at 9 hours as well, I hope between processor improvement and the cooling architecture it gets more real world battery life then my SP3.

Yep, when that technology was ready, I'm assuming he meant memory cards. What are we up to, 512gb microSD? Also yep on liquid cooling, pretty incredible stuff.

That would be the best split, and given the difference in battery volume shown in these two pictures I'm thinking that real-world might well be 4 hours or so for the tablet, but hard to say. Not much battery there.

Surface Book. WOW. that looks impressive. A bit out of my price range for the one I would get but here's to more innovation!

Will wait for reviews but MS is looking great. XB1 even got a mention. Definitely would consider switching to MS especially if I get a XB1.
 
Very impressed with this stuff today.

I've been wanting dockable phones for a while now and figured that's where Microsoft was heading.

I hope it evolves and becomes even more like a full desktop experience.

Might pick up a Windows phone anyways since iOS 9 and the iPhone 6 have been driving me crazy.
 
The Surface Book definitely needs a drop test. I'll be paranoid about the screen to keyboard locking mechanism. The springs scare me. Other than that ....WOW!!!
 
My thoughts below

Surface Pro 4 - 16GB RAM option is brilliant, my guess for the cpu clock rates will be 0.9GHz for the m3, 2.3GHz for the i5 and 2.4GHz for the i7. Not an artist so the pen improvements don't mean much to me but its great to see that they gave the speakers a much needed boost. The hello camera and fingerprint sensor are also welcome additions that i hope will extend to more than just device unlocking.

Only disappointments i would say is lack of USB-C (Although i wouldn't trade it for the USB3 port) and that the lowest spec CPU is a m3 and not at least an m7. otherwise looks like a worthy successor. Just got a used top spec SP2 but could definitely upgrade to this in 2-3 years from now. Although if intel somehow manage to fit in 4 cores at 15W in a future device, i would be all over that.

Surface Book - MS answer to the Macbook Pro. Maybe i'm mistaken but from what i can see from the pictures, most of the ports are on the keyboard base. Bad move. Dedicated GPU is nice for gamers but other than that and screen size, not much that separates it to the SP4. Would still go for a 15" and possibly even 13" MBP over this.

MS Band 2 - Probably the only thing i'll purchase from the event. Was intrigued by the original and the price point is not too steep.

I think it's awesome to see the confidence and moves microsoft have made. Totally doesn't feel like a company that ballmer was ever part of. With that said i think the iPad pro and the Surface book both appeal to different types of pro and consumers. The surface pro however will probably getting cannibalized by the surface book.

The chasm isn't wide enough anymore between the two with the exception of price and that only goes so far. If you look at the "Fustercluck" that is the Macbook and then then entry level Retina Macbook pro and the high end Macbook air. Those devices are totally cannibalizing each other.

I don't know how deep microsoft is with margins in the way that apple is.

I think they've got some overlap between the i7 SP4, and the Book, yeah. But for the most part, the Surface is a powerful tablet, meant to be used primarily as such, while the Book is a laptop that can occasionally be a tablet.

If anything, the battery life when using the upper end of the Book as tablet will be the one thing that most separates them. 9 hours vs. 3. If you want a tablet, you know which one you're gonna get.
