"New Mighty Mouse" came up with this: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/619716/

As the tenth result. I love the idea, though. Get rid of the sticky scroll sphere entirely.

Great idea being able to scroll in all directions from the mouse, but having a physical ball was out-dated already when the mighty mouse was first announced. They should have gone with a touch sensitive area from day 1 - but I suppose they decided it would be too expensive and too power hungry (not that power would have been an issue for the original wired version). Maybe they'll be forcing us back to wired mice, like they've forced us back to a wired keyboard.

Am I missing something? How exactly did Apple force you to go back to the WIRED keyboard??

The fact that the wireless doesn't have a number pad. The current wireless keyboard is the exact same layout as a MB/MBA/MBP keyboard.

If you are buying a keyboard for desk use, most people want a FULL keyboard (at least I do)

I like it. It would be pretty cool to have this as a side-kick to the aluminum late 2008 MacBooks.

What do you think?

Ooo. I would buy that.

Found it - Multi-touch trackpad + keyboard.

Now, forget the clickwheel/number pad overlays - I would buy one of these in a heartbeat rather than a new mouse.

From Crunchgear.

That would rock. Please make a wireless version as well.

I've always thought a multi-touch Mighty Mouse will be coming soon. MWSF 2009 seems to be a good time to announce it, with the updated iMacs and redesigned Mac minis.

... this is exactly like being racist, except to a mighty mouse which is much better quality than Logitechs by far. My MX revo ( in the trash, the 5 one I bought/returned/exchanged ) had the paint worn off in one day of light use. The rubber peeled off. The whole thing was cheaply designed and felt really uncomfortable.

This is a joke right?

I thought this was funny and so true.

Now that trackpad on the aluminum keyboards look really intriguing...

This comment is totally absurd. Any Logitech mouse out there, even the $9.99 ones blows the mighty mouse out of the water.

I have 4-5 mighty mouse just sitting in the drawer and they all exhibit these problems,

and they have these black gunk that I have to clean off every other day.

One thing I do praise is that I love the scroll wheel when it does work on the mighty mouse but when it breaks every other day it pisses the hell out of me.

Here's my take on it:

I'm truly saddened by the Mighty Mouse. It isn't Apple quality, but yet it matches the Mac so well. In a serious dilemma, I chose function over form and went with the MX Revo. Sorry Apple. As much as I would like a sleek Apple mouse to match my Mac, Logitech just has you beat. Of this I am truly ashamed to admit, yet on the other hand I'm pleased to say I have an awesome mouse which I picked up at an unbeatable price :)

You know the only way to get the mighty mouse to work 100% is to put a napkin on top of it and use it, then it works perfectly since no black gunk buildup or the scroll wheel doesnt get stuff inside for it to not work.

But I got to the point of getting tired of putting a napkin on top of the mighty mouse and defeats the purpose of the mighty mouse's aesthetic looks.

Yes I hope they don't meddle with the full keyboard - I want it to retain the numeric keypad with physical keys that I can press without having to look.

It looks pretty nice..now all it need is wait for it to come out...

If this new mighty mouse has all the problems fixed, I will buy one in an instant. Also I hope apple used really good parts in the new might mouse, I wouldnt mind even paying $69.99 for one if it works perfectly as it should.

I have to say I've grown to love my existing wireless MM. The ball does need occasional cleaning, but the one improvement I'd like to see is a couple more programmable buttons please :)

New Mighty Mouse...?

I am set to buy a new Mac in January or so, I am currently using a $9 Logitech that I quite like. My only gripe is that it is very light, I actually like a heavier mouse. I think a heavier mouse is more accurate, at least in my experience. I plan on using the Logitech instead of the M/m, since I've already tried out the M/m. I'm not crazy about the ball, I think they should have used a wheel instead.

Dude, of course, mice get gunk on them, as do keyboards. It's pretty much a given that anything that is in constant contact with hands is going to get really dirty. I've never seen a keyboard older than a month that wasn't filthy, especially underneath. I have both the aluminum chiclet keyboard and the older plastic Apple Pro keyboard, along with a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and wired Mighty Mouse, which I regularly unplug and clean, usually with anti-static wipes. Once and awhile I'll get the vacuum out so I can get all the crumbs from under the keys too. ;)

well any precious mouse from logitech or microsoft I've never had to clean anything off of them and my current logitech mx400 works exactly the same ask it did since day one and not even once I had to clean it in the last 4 years as I wash my hands before I even touch my mouse and keyboard everytime.

But even with the mighty mouse after I wash my hands everytime to use it, every 3-4 days I have to clean off some black gunk that sticks to the white shiny plastic part mostly on the top where you actually have to scratch it off.

The last time Ive had to clean a mouse was back in 1999 before laser mouse when I had to take the ball out from the bottom to clean out the inside for the ball to roll properly so that the cursor doesn't jump all over the place.

As for the apple aluminum keyboards, I absolutely love them. I like them even more than the previous keyboard with the bottom that's see through. I remember the bottom you can see hair and little dusts and food particles, didn't look so pretty.

i kinda like the keyboard with the large touchpad, they could make those for the peeps that have macbooks, but at the end of the day i like a mouse. the mouse pics look cool aswell.although i havnt bought ither one of them yet.

I am not sure how well I would transition to a touch-screen-esque mouse. I like the tactile response that the oft-maligned Mighty Mouse Scroll Sphere provides. I like it so much, I am going to go and scroll right now.

If this ever becomes a real device and the software handles the multi-touch aspects well (like allowing one finger to rest on the mouse while scrolling is happening with another), it may be a better replacement for the Mighty Mouse.

I don't like the fact that the Might Mouse' scroll ball needs frequent cleaning (that doesn't seem to help much either sometimes).

the rumored pics look awesome, but can it right-click? I've been using the current gen bluetooth mighty mouse now for about 6 months. It's worked alright but tends to hurt the wrists over extended periods. Got a MX revolution for Xmas so I'm going to switch to that for the time being.

I think when it comes to mice, Apple should really study how Logitech does it. If it's form they care so much about, the new logitech MX Air could pass off as an apple product any day. It just needs to be white or silver :p

wierd, my wired might mouse is fine, but my wireless one is a whole different story, the scroll ball thing can't scroll up anymore

OT: that mouse looks nice, i doubt i would buy one though, if it were to actually come out it would be too expensive for my taste :D
