Snow Leopard - Previewed in WWDC '08, announced in WWDC '09 (shipping info etc), released in August 2009

I somehow doubt that Apple can release 10.7 only 1.5 years after 10.6 since iOS has required a lot work lately. Of course depends what Apple adds there.

I'm agreeing with the late 2011.

ok so in all honesty there isn't much to look forward to in terms of the 20th. Sure they might announce a new OS but big deal when its still going to probably take about a year to get released, who knows what might still change. It was cool first time i heard Steve talk about the magic stuff thats going to come out but its becoming boring and old, especially when Apple doenst live up to the hype its creating. Almost every product from the last few years was (and not meaning to step on anyone's toes) one huge disappointment for me. Ipad no USB, Iphone needed a bumper to work correctly, macpro update was extremely disappointing in terms of hardware and pricing, Imac aka the yellow tinted box, etc...etc yet Steve was always talking about "how magical it all is" and lets all be honost here, i'm a mac user now but windows7 isn't that bad, its a good taught out and very stable OS, it has its flaws but so does OSX

Ipad no USB

Why does the iPad need USB? I'm confused... The only thing I can think of is printing, and it's getting that next update...

Iphone needed a bumper to work correctly

I use mine with no bumper just fine.

macpro update was extremely disappointing in terms of hardware and pricing

It's what Intel released, and the pricing is very competitive, cheaper than Dell.

Imac aka the yellow tinted box

The yellow tinted iMac screens were an issue, but Apple dealt with them.

I think a lot of this is hyperbole.

What?! The Steve Jobs reality distortion field isn't working .

I do know what you mean though. I think alot of this has to do with Apples advancement of their consumer electronics division. We shouldn't be going 'Back to Mac' because if it was Apples core buisness (no pun intended) they would have never left.

Well said!!!

If 10.7 is out in 6 months or 18 months it really doesnt matter. 10.6.4 does everything i need. A new OS just means my current apps may not be compatible.

+1

It usually takes a couple months to get everything running smoothly again after a new OS

Says you. I love my new Mac Pro. It's worth every penny to me. Mind you, I'm hoping they'll get this 5870 snow problem solved very soon.

says me indeed, i can only speak for myself here. For such a high priced top of the line computer there shouldn't even be a graphics card problem, says allot about the quality and quality check...i'm new to Apple so excuse me how i just don't get why allot of mac users just keep looking for arguments to make everybody believe that whenever there is a problem with an Apple product its ok? are some of you folks getting payed by Steve or something or is this just a cold case of naivety? then again this is just my personal point of view, glad you like your mac with the faulty graphics card reel2reel. :D

Have you been using Windows very much recently? We have some very high priced Windows machines in the office from Dell (think much more expensive than the Mac Pro), and a GPU driver update just broke some of our apps the other day. Not like, snow on the screen. Like full blown app crashes at launch now.

It's a little misleading to claim that high end Windows machines don't have issues either. In my experience, the issues they have are typically far worse.

Whatever the case, 10.6.5 has updated graphics drivers.

yeah i have been using windows forever, just recently about 3 weeks ago switched (got a really good deal and offer i couldn't refuse :D) but yes you're wright (even tho i never "claimed" that high end windows machines don't have issues) ...windows is nothing compared to MacOS, also the hardware used in PC's is pure junk compared to the far supreme hardware used in Mac's, so yeah we should be thrilled, running around the room chanting happy songs because Apple gave us a computer with a faulty graphics cards, but thats ok because PC's and windows is far worst!!!

....sweet baby jesus

I love you guys. Every thread I learn something, but some of you need a dictionary and an enterprise grade spell check application.

just a wild guess but, some of us are probably from a non-English speaking country, China..France, Germany...etc, could this be the reason? Either way sharp observation skills, ever taught about setting up your own forum, should be full of interesting topics.

The iPad need USB to transfer files and install apps without buying them from the apple store. Also how can you back up data on the go if you have no USB port. Or after a conference when everyone says "can i have a copy of that please?" ermm, yes hang on let me photocopy each page on my iPad.

The iPhone needs Bluetooth to transfer to a Mac/PC/other phone that dont have the software. Or it just needs a memory card slot.

You can't transfer and install apps without the App Store anyway because of the way that Apple locks down the iPad and iPhone, so your point about needing USB for that is useless because of the way it works. They aren't going to change their policy about that either, because the App Store allows the device to always run stable and have no viruses. If it wasn't for the App Store, every new iOS update would break tons and tons of apps, and people would blame Apple for it.

As far as copying files goes, everyone these days has email and the internet. Why do people keep hanging on to the days of sneakernet? This isn't 1980, we don't need floppy disks to copy things, so why do we need memory cards or USB? You just simply email people the file, or you put it up on some site to download. Stop living in the past! The only thing that should need a memory card these days is professional cameras. Even consumer grade cameras should be moving to Wi-Fi sync these days.

I think Wi-Fi sync for the iPhone and iPad is inevitable, but Apple doesn't want to do local sync, they want internet sync (not unlike MobileMe syncing).
