also, its reasonable to assume that large screen phones exist only because of the inability of android oems to compete with iphone specs and battery life at 4 inch. sony managed in late 2013 with z1 compact, although 2mm thicker...

thats why apple wasnt in a hurry to release a larger screen iphone

I like this one http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/gadgetlab/2013/04/IHS_Chart_display.jpg

And since when has Apple disappointed anyone with a design?

Well...

... and don't forget...

this doesnt look like a mold, it looks like a jig used to hold a part while its on the CNC mill

With admittedly limited knowledge of state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, I was about to ask just that: aren't the last several flagship iPhones CNC'd from a solid piece of aluminum? Where does a mold come into play?
If anyone knows this with certainty, please enlighten us.

Well that's two, and maybe "mighty mouse"... please do continue...

Worst mouse ever

iPad versions of apps now just blown up phone version with no account for designing UI to utilize space.

Do I even need to explain why this one is awful? Ugh

Should I keep going or do we see now that not everything they produce is thoughtful to detail and pure gold?

Right.

If this is a "mould", then tell me folks; why are there SO many holes, and why is the inside rough cut?

Tell me that.

Maybe just stop flooding the forum with JPEGs to add weight to an irrelevant "point" you're scrambling to make? That'd help a whole lot :)

I'm not understanding why people don't realize that is a mold for an iPhone 5 or 5S. I'm not usually this obnoxious, but I think the situation warrants it: THE PHONE ON THE LEFT IS AN IPHONE 4 or 4S, people. The indent in the mold is the same size as an iPhone 5 or 5S. Nothing to see here.

The iPhone 4S? ;)

Wait for the actual release. There was another leak which made it look like a small iPad mini. That's a design change.

I wouldn't say the 4s was a disappointment. The 4 was beautiful, and the 4S wasn't all that much worse.

Coming to an online forum, expecting logical thought patterns and rational replies? Pah! Away with you!

Gimme a break.
Apple would never make a phone out of MDF.
What if it got wet or touched, the fire?

D.

I'm not actually even sure if this is sarcasm or not.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was only talking about task like video editing. If we include gaming, you are absolutely right of course.

I don't think that Skylake etc. will bring the end of dGPUs, but they will certainly bring it closer. E.g. with Skylake, the CPU itself gains many properties of the GPU. If this trend continues, Intel can drop the iGPU completely at some point and do all the graphics-related computations using the vector-processing units (or to put it differently, all the iGPU-based technology fuses with the CPU execution units).

And true, Maxwell is a really amazing step up. Honestly didn't expect Nvidia to deliver what that did.

Alright alright...I get it.

As an iPad user, I do hate iOS 7 just as much as you do. Thank god my iTouch 2 is stuck on iOS 4 for life.

Magic Mouse isn't bad, imo, though.

Gamecentre sucks more in iOS 7 than before.

The camera...was that developed under Sj? Out of curiosity.

blame that stupid home button

Nope - could easily cut out bezels on the sides and at the top (still some extra on the bottom too) to fit 4.7" in a device that isn't too much bigger than the current iteration.

I don't Apple sticks with the same bezels and face. I think this is fake.

I'll pop back into the thread in a month, see if you've all managed to progress the conversation a little...

Maybe if they chopped down the hilariously tell top and bottom bezels they could fit a much larger screen in a device the same height as the 5S. If they made it ever so slightly wider they could make it a standard 16:9 1280x720 resolution. Maybe change the way iOS 8 scales app UIs. Have then scale like Android, this way app file sizes could even get smaller because that way you only need one sized ui parts, instead of bundling retina, non retina, 5 and earlier aspect ratio parts.

I hardly think Apple designers are using Android as a reference for design ideas - something just tells me that's not how it goes... just a feeling.

Showing highly specialised CNC production process equipment to the general public and expecting insightful, intelligent responses? Priceless.

For everything else, there's "Mastercard".

:p

I really hope it isn't a mold, this would indicate that they might make it plastic, after all the **** people give Samsung, it wouldn't look good

Please tell me you didn't just say that, and that you're aware of the 5C and how it's manufactured?

Possibly you did just say that, and don't know... so, for that, I say this:

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13...ecision-manufacturing-to-avoid-plastic-stigma

Just what I need. An iPhone so large that it doesn't fit in my pocket! And an iPhone so large that I can't use it one-handed.

Wow, thanks Tim Cook, for your AMAZING INNOVATIONS since Steve died!!

Meanwhile, the ONE LARGE THING that we really do need has been discontinued: the 17" laptop. High screen resolution doesn't matter if the pixels are so small that you have to squint while trying to edit video.

Tim Cook and Phil Schiller are making a complete mess of Steve's house.

Absolutely agreed. I too miss the 17" MBP.

Perhaps everyone's forgotten (already?) the 5C manufacturing video - looks rather familiar to me...:
