Give me a new processor, at least 4.7 with at least the same resolution as the 5S, with sapphire and better battery life and I will jump, even with a $100 price increase.

It's a commodity now.

The smartphone business is rapidly becoming commoditized and one that is now going to undergo rapid depreciation in price as everyone races toward the bottom of the margin barrel. Ditto with iPads/tablets. This same thing happened with PCs - as happens with all technology. You start with an something huge, but eventually the sizzle fades. Further the form factor on iPhones is getting very dated. Bigger screen, yeah, like that is revolutionary.

Samsung quite-clearly has soft sales on their new GS-5; Verizon is giving away one with a purchase (on contract.) That is, "buy one, get one." That's unprecedented for a new flagship device. Apple has seen soft demand as well against their expectations.

I imagine it has maybe 2 to 3 years before everyone realizes what is actually happening right now.

Perhaps this moves in to wearable devices as being the next big thing, but you can put a cork in the smartphone business as a big money-maker. It is pretty much downhill from here. There's just not much more differentiation to be had. Hopefully Apple has some more big stuff coming out like real TVs, watches, etc.

The next ones better not all be big and retarded.

Any bigger than the iP5 and I'm definitely not going to be interested. It's not just usability or the association of big slabs being cheap and badly designed , but there's got to be some possibility of portability and convenience.
Otherwise this might just be the first iphone I don't actually buy (aside from the 5c).
Although apple managed to make plastic phones premium quality, problem dimensions are not something that quality it materials can overcome.
Let's all just hope there's a premium version of a suitably premium small size.

the red line indicates 0.7" thought I would post what 0.7" looks like to help those who think you need all these extra hands and custom pants

I reckon we'll see an iPhone 6c with 4" display and iPhone 6 with 4.7+" display. Display size will make a good differentiator between the lines.

Why would they do that? The 5C is the same size as the 5/5S, so you're proposing that Apple are going to set the new size as 4.7", and then jump back down to 4" for the "C" variant?

I think not.

I'm very relieved that the general public don't run Apple.

this doesnt look like a mold, it looks like a jig used to hold a part while its on the CNC mill

Which would at least make sense, given that it seems unlikely that Apple is going to be molding the iPhone 6 out of anything. This isn't the iPhone 3, or the 5c we are talking about.

There's no jumping back down. I'm talking of the 6c having the same display size as the 5c. That meets the needs of those who don't want a larger phone. What's so strange about that? Apple already did the same thing with the 5c - the previous generation phone in a new shell.

We all have our own opinions. There's no need to be an ass about running Apple.

The 5C has the same size as the higher-end 5S; why would you think the 6C, if they even make one, would be smaller? I think you'll probably find that, if anything were to follow that logic, the 5 (or the 5S) is "the new 4S" and is retained for those not wanting 4.7"+, and the 4S is removed from sale.

I'm not being "an ass" - sorry if it came across as rude - I am just curious as to the logic, or lack thereof, employed when people "predict" Apple's next move. I'm saying look at the facts of the here and now... and your idea doesn't add up, not at all.
:)

Look at it another way. There's a fair chance Apple will maintain the option of a current size. With the 5c Apple has shown they're interested in having a current version of previous models, as opposed to only selling the previous model without updates. So if Apple were to release a new version of the current form factor, what else should it be called? If my prediction is foolish, what is yours?

I've got a better plan: Let's stop guessing, shall we? ;)

Apple actually won the argument that PCs were priced too low and that they should cut prices no further, especially for laptops. The name brand PC makers have either reduced in functionality their former $300 PCs with Google's ChromeOS rebranding them as Chromebooks or have jacked up prices with ultrabooks, many with touchscreens. Unfortunately for them, jacking up their price has now made Apple's products quite price competitive and a better deal considering support and resale value.

Apple only won the argument because it found a new product category to keep it alive. In reality if not for the iPod and iPhone, it would have "lost" big time. It would have been dead and buried.

What rp2011 said is true; if it weren't for a new category Apple would still be a marginal company. Besides my point is still very relevant using your example. Look at the price of Apple Laptops or others - what has happened to them? Pretty much a race to the bottom. As opposed to a few years ago, I can now get a powerful Apple laptop for what? $900-$1000. I can buy a Mac-Mini which does all I need to for $600. Absolute margins have dropped like a rock. Phone sales will follow PC sales and start dropping pretty rapidly within 1-2 years max both in price and number of units.

Better than a tall ass-phone.

But yeah, I know what you mean. The power button will be a pain to reach if it gets much taller.

Well i did read a rumor that the power button may be relocated to the side with the mute switch and volume buttons, but i still think the phone looks too big based on these images.

I'm really hoping Apple don't only announce a 4.7" iPhone. I really want that 5.5" device!!
