The only people who buy iPads now are first timers (very few) and people who have their iPad break (very few). Otherwise, Apple provides zero reason to upgrade.

:apple:

Really?

I've went from iPad 3 to iPad 4 to iPad Air and will, for the first time in 3 years, not be upgrading the following year. That's not to say there aren't others like me who'll continue the annual upgrade of their devices.

I still don't know why I need a tablet AND a laptop AND a smartphone. My Macs and my wife's Windows laptop suit perfectly our digital entertainment needs along our smartphones.

Everyone has their own preferences. I for one enjoy carrying the entertainment devices for my entire family (4 ipads) in a small bag when we are travelling on holidays and such. And, for my kids, it has replaced the dvd player in the car, and pretty much all other media and game consumation devices into one small device.

If you have to question it, you probably don't need it.

Please stick a speaker on the top so we can have stereo sound in landscape mode? Getting silly not that the haven't done it already.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see anything interesting going on with Ipad. I was hopping for oled screen but so far nothing good is known.
Better spec and fingerprint is not so promising.
Videos will not look better or play better pages will not load much faster very disappointed. :(

Agree, I am still using my ipad 3 (first ipad) and have yet to find a reason to upgrade. I am fully aware that the newer ones are faster, but a few extra seconds to load a web page doesn't matter. Not a heavy gamer and use it mainly for email, web, and streaming

Now if my ipad falls and the screen breaks I'll probably get the new air 2, but unlike the iphone, no reason to upgrade

So the next generation iPAD will have TouchID, A8, slimmer profile and possible better speakers ?

ipad air 2 surface. what is this a missile naming convention? oh I added the surface haha

just call it the iPad.

Call the old one the old iPad.

there you go next weeks rumour, iPad naming to change. Analists have fun :D

Same tired stupid Jony Ive design, Vertical Video Audio...Why why for the love of landscape is there only audio on 1 side of the ipad???

What sweet spot? Maybe if you have hearing in only 1 ear, then the audio from the ipad would be sweet, as I have to functional ears, the audio coming from one speaker sounds really bad.

Makes me wonder about the hearing ability of the ipad development team. Strikes me as strange that there is no comment about the very poor quality of the ipad audio, why has no one from the ipad dev team taken Mr Ive to task?

The only logical reason is that Apple Inc runs on a climate of fear, the staff internal to Apple Dev departments live in a state of fear of Mr Ive!

stereo speakers please!

2014.... and still no stereo speakers on each side of the iPad. geez.

internals aside, i don't see them doing anything interesting with the ipad anytime soon

I agree, the tablet is at it's technological conclusion for now. Though don't count out some pretty epic internal stuff that could be must haves in a few years.

I'm pretty excited about touch ID on the iPad, better battery life and improved cameras front and back, would love a flash on the iPad too (not out of necessity but if you have a flash you might just take a picture of a moment that you otherwise missed)!

Most specs bumps are pointless now we are at desktop class levels, it's my opinion that apple should throw almost every penny into making iOS more like a laptop in terms of creating content and improving all the idrive cloud apps, the tablet is only a few steps away from being able to work in that way.

My biggest bug bear with iOS right now is that you can't order WiFi networks and it'll just connect to the first one in the alphabet, here to hoping they add this sort of stuff soon.

The ipad is a hunk of junk, proves once and for all the total lack of technical ability of Apple Inc.

They cannot produce a tablet capable of stereo speakers, and with the almost impossible ability to add data to the ipad, no external media access via mini-cards, no mini-jack input.

Apple Inc is great at selling, they totally fail at producing anything of a high technical spec.. A 5 year old can design and build a better tablet, with stereo speakers and external card reading ability.. This is nothing Apple should be proud of... More junk from Apple!

Thinness was a good goal to improve Ipad1.

I think they have arrived. Shaving thousands of an inch is pointless; the current incarnation is already on the edge of being too thin and flexible.

Why does EVERY prediction of the next iPad talk about "thinner". Is that what the masses want? A thinner pad? Something that flexes and creaks?

You got extra room in the case? Make the battery bigger for crying out loud.

Seems to be a fascination of Jonathan Ive. While he heads up design, expect the trend to continue. Though I completely agree with you, this fascination is bordering on products becoming too fragile.

iPads have stereo speakers. The are just not that great. The mini-jack allows for 2 channels of sound out and one channel of sound in.

No Flash unit to go along side the Camera Lens.
No proper Stereo by placing a speaker at either end of the device.

What a bunch of crap.
Yet another year goes by with no imagination :(

Totally disagree
Apple are just too pig headed and as in the past unwilling to make improvements as they feel they don't need to.

100% agree
Lazy design, no imagination :(

Same tired stupid Jony Ive design, Vertical Video Audio...Why why for the love of landscape is there only audio on 1 side of the ipad???

100% Agree.

Because they are lazy, and people buy them like this.

If Apple had speakers either side, and Samsung did this one sided audio, then Samsung would have the crap ripped out of them here and rightly so.

You HAVE to wear headphone is always the answer.....

WHY ?

----------

I think they've gotten to a point there isn't much they can do differently on the outside. future iPads will show improvement with internals and software. so pics like this don't mean much

There is lots more they could do if they had any imagination. :(

----------

No LED flash on the back? What's the point of having a camera there? :apple::mad:

Totally agree.

1 dollar and probably 2 grams and we'd have a camera that can actually produce a decent photo in a dimly lit room, I hate that they deliberately choose to make something worse. When the way to make it better is almost "no cost" and right in their face. :(

Using a tablet form factor is much better suited than a laptop for the sofa, in bed, or on the can...it's like a magazine. Also easer to pass around and share with friends (looking at photos, etc) than a laptop.

I travel and unless I plan on coding I only bring the iPad -- don't have to take out of carry on, and the battery lasts much longer than my laptop.

What? So very few that apple earned billions in revenue from iPad lady quarter. Ooookay...

You're not supposed to upgrade iPads annually. Any more than you would your home stereo...b when you do, it's better than your old one.

Exactly. But if they upgrade the processor and RAM, and make sure the battery life stays at 10 hours, they could start introducing more mid-high end productivity apps.

It may be partly due to the disappointing sales figures. I predicted the hype for iPad to slow down in the next generation since the room for improvement has significantly reduced with the iPad Air and iPad mini retina (in their current form).

What? The iPad made nearly 6 billion (with a B) in the last quarter alone. That's more money than Amazon, Microsoft and Google can attribute to their sales of tablets, ever. The sales numbers are not disappointing, as Cook commented on the earnings call. Only the pundits and analysts who want/predict never ending massive grown were disappointed.
