I kind of want to upgrade my iPad Air just for the new speaker grille, that **** looks so cool. But since I'm not made out of money I probably won't.

Please stick a speaker on the top so we can have stereo sound in landscape mode? Getting silly not that the haven't done it already.

Not really. I've never spent a second thinking about it, let alone complaining. If I needed stereo I'd plug in headphones. As it is, it's perfectly fine for videos or netflix in bed.

----------

What sweet spot? Maybe if you have hearing in only 1 ear, then the audio from the ipad would be sweet, as I have to functional ears, the audio coming from one speaker sounds really bad.

I have two perfectly functioning ears and never worried about it. It's a tablet, not my home entertainment system.

The only logical reason is that Apple Inc runs on a climate of fear, the staff internal to Apple Dev departments live in a state of fear of Mr Ive!

Complete fantasy.

----------

The ipad is a hunk of junk, proves once and for all the total lack of technical ability of Apple Inc.

They cannot produce a tablet capable of stereo speakers, and with the almost impossible ability to add data to the ipad, no external media access via mini-cards, no mini-jack input.

Apple Inc is great at selling, they totally fail at producing anything of a high technical spec.. A 5 year old can design and build a better tablet, with stereo speakers and external card reading ability.. This is nothing Apple should be proud of... More junk from Apple!

Rubbish. Apple and iPad are the #1 selling tablet in the industry. An industry they created (not the old crummy tablets of yore). In the last quarter they earned $6 billion on iPad -- more than Amazon, Google, or Microsoft ever sold.

I still don't know why I need a tablet AND a laptop AND a smartphone. My Macs and my wife's Windows laptop suit perfectly our digital entertainment needs along our smartphones.

Oh, gee, you don't? Man, you should've told earlier, they would've stopped producing them...
I still don't understand why do we need pasta AND pizza AND cakes. I mean, isn't pizza JUST ENOUGH?

Spoken like a true Apple apologist.

The device would be so much better with stereo landscape audio, there's no two ways about it.

Wonderful for when you're grabbing it landscape as most people do. I'm sure you'll get a nice hand massage.

there's a reason why tablets don't have front facing speakers.

Try to hold this in landscape. give me a break.

...and that is different from the way it works now in what way? most of the time I hold it in landsacpe I block the speakers already....I know, I'm holding it wrong ;-)

I bet we all enjoying this.

I can't wait for the day that all photo are fake....

Apple surprises us all by actually keeping secrets, including suppliers.

And Apple keeps telling us, they have tight control ..... Well, maybe on *some things*

My iPad 3 is starting to feel sluggish switching between my heavy RAM-using apps, but I'm not going to buy a new one any time soon.

internals aside, i don't see them doing anything interesting with the ipad anytime soon

I agree.

The iPad (like the iPhone and iPod) is a mature product that has reached almost perfection in its form and functionality: it's light, fast, has retina display, awesome battery life, great camera, etc. So... other than to progressively improve the internals year after year, I don't see how Apple can possibly "revolutionize" this product, nor I think it needs to.

It may be partly due to the disappointing sales figures. I predicted the hype for iPad to slow down in the next generation

I think it's the opposite - Apple has not been selling more iPads because they haven't done anything innovative with the newer models, so there isn't much of a point in buying a new one after you have one of the older models. I wonder if something similar would happen in the USA if phone carriers stopped paying for phone updates every two years - would so many people have left the iPhone 4/4s for the 5/5s if they had to pay the unlocked price for them?

I was in your boat for years, refusing to buy an iPad since I already have a Macbook Air and an iPhone.

Then, I borrowed an iPad mini from a friend for a few days... and it instantly became my device of choice when I'm kicking back in the couch or in bed. Needless to say, I bought my own iPad mini.

It's like taking the move from PC to Mac: you don't think you need it, until you do it... and then there's no going back.

No. You're right.

Both methods are stupid. Especially a tablet.

Have you heard an LG G3? That is the loudest speaker I have ever heard. And it is on the back. I would put it on the back.

Good to be in that position though. They can work on improving things we don't even think need improving. Like increasing display resolution again :D

I don't mind, that they didn't change the basic design. It truly is a great design.

TouchID will be a welcome addition to iPad.
Also when, someday, it is integrated into Apple laptops.

I seriously hate all those passwords.

I don't like the speaker holes at the bottom, it just crawls my blood.

I don't either. Many times the iPad sits on my lap like I'm reading a big book and the speakers are muffled because they're sitting against my lap.

I just want it so Apple can implement multiple profiles for iOS. Not everyone can afford an iPad for every kid and adult in the family.

Portability for some. I fly alot and pulling a laptop out on short flights is a pain(my avg is 1hr). Prior to the recent change of allowing iPads and other tablets on at all times, at least it was eligible to store in the seat back pocket before the change. Laptops need to be below the seat or overhead. Not to mentions seat trays create another obstacles.

At times I wish I had a Mac book air or pro but still find the iPad Air handy a lot for watching movies and other things.

No LED flash on the back? What's the point of having a camera there? :apple::mad:

To take pictures of things during the day, maybe? After all, if you're taking pictures at night, nobody can notice how obnoxious you look holding a 10" camera in front of your face.

perfection?

iOS barely utilizes the iPads larger screen size, 1GB RAM is pathetic, camera is still terrible, they have a long way to go

I think they've gotten to a point there isn't much they can do differently on the outside. future iPads will show improvement with internals and software. so pics like this don't mean much

But there has to be a point when the design gets old in the tooth. And with Apple still supporting older hardware such as the iPad 2 and by default the first iPad mini it gives less reasons for people to upgrade.
And I've noticed something with Apple devices. Since the operating system is so optimized I doubt that we will see huge performance differences between iPad Air and Air 2. On paper the iPhone 5s kills the iPhone 5 but in real life it was hard to tell.

First world problems.

The iPad Air is light enough that you can handle holding it without supporting it against your lap. Also, if you're reading a book on it, you're probably tilting it back on an angle, revealing the speakers enough to hear sound. Also, why do you need sound to read a book? Music, you say? Plug some headphones in. What's that? You shouldn't have to put headphones in your ears to listen to music on your iPad?

First world problems.

I agree.

great camera, etc.

Errr no.

It had been deliberately crippled by a poorer camera that is in Apple's smaller mobile phone, and it does not even have a flash unit alongside the camera, which has been standard in phones for many many years, even before smartphones.

There is no excuse when you could pay up to $1000 ish for an iPad with a worse camera and no flash than a mobile phone from Apple or many other companies.

It's insulting, and arrogant of Ive. The sooner ( Jony No More-Ive-dea's )' leaves Apple the better

Agree, why SHOULD you have to wear headphones to compensate for a poor design?

Perhaps these people would like An Apple car with it's in-car music player and all the sound coming form one spot.
When anyone says "would it be nice to have more speakers around the car?"
We can say, no. If you want to hear stereo plug in some headphones.
