Think about it. First there was iPod, then came iPad, and now iPid.

I can't wait. I'm so excited about the iPad Mini. I'll be able to play all my iPhone games on a bigger screen and do a lot more on the road.

Bezel!

I just hope that the ipad mini does not have any bezel on the left and right sides. I don't see the need for it. Its sized just right so that you can hold it with one Hand.

iPod Touch, as a brand, is relatively week. I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched it.

Why not just make the iPod touch part of the iPad family. There could be three sizes of iPad; the standard iPad, rumoured iPad mini and the current but updated iPod touch. In fact, I wouldn't be entirely surprised if the iPad mini replaced the iPod Touch.

Agree it could leave the iPod brand in limbo as the only remaining products would be nano, shuffle and classic. But then I suppose they could just square off the iPod brand as primarily music players.

I just think it's nice when people make an effort, when posting in a forum, to make their writing easy to read. It's a mark of respect to the reader.

Cutting down on excessive exclamation marks and capitalisations and trying to use full sentences, that sort of thing.

As for having nothing to say, are you suggesting your comment about standards is adding something? That conversation has been had so many times. It's right up there with the iPhone numbering convention and the screen size hoopla when it comes to worn out topics.

and u have respect for people whose english lang. is secondary lang. ! miserable git

Micro USB is fiddly and annoying and breaks pretty easily. The new Dock Connector looks like it'll be easier to connect, and more robust.

Also, Apple can make more cash money selling cables and licensing 3rd party products using their own design.

i never damaged micro usb ,.. am very careful with electronic devices..

No way! I Love my iPod touch. I fo just about everything on it. I would be lost in this chaos world without my iPod touch to keep me from becoming insane!

why still ''aaapleee' MUST do oposite as standard?? i really DONT understand
if there is STANDARD everybody MUST folow it !!!
There is ***** M I C R O U S B port standaard dear apple !! u exeption
hate this so much !! so all other mobile manuf. they do as is standard but this company ignores !! IGNORANCE

Anyway if this iphon 5 gonna be same design then it is gonaaa be booooriingg all the same blee

You sound pretty ignorant!!! If micro USB could do what the iPad/iPhone adapter could do, I'm sure they would use it.

Why would apple remove functionality from their products to make you happy?

Am I the only one who is sick of seeing this small parts of various devices... JESUS! Whether it has 1 or 10 pins, I don't give a **** unless I am the engineer who has to interface these components into the product I will actually use.

:mad::mad::mad:

Ahhhh... much better now. :)

No you are not.
I am sick of these silly stories.
There was a time when MR used to publish meaningful items. Now unless you're an engineer or investor this is plain BORING!!!!

iPad = iPad
(new) smaller iPad = iPad Mini
iPod Touch = iPad Nano

iPods reserved for music players only?

Judging by the equal placement headphone jack of the iPhone and iPad mini, there might be a universal attachment that plugs into the mini dock and headphones at the same time and also might explain the movement of the jack to the bottom.

Exactly.

Though there is a possibility of just scrapping iPod Touch/iPad Nano.

The new smaller iPad (iPad Mini) is either truly mobile or it's not. If it's not, what's the point of it, we already have the original iPad. If it is, then what's the point of the iPod Touch/iPad Nano.

hardware is hardware no one really has much of an advantage, it's design and functionality that are key, I can't see how a mini ipad could possibly add any new functionality to the apple lineup. Smaller doesn't mean cheaper.

The only reason there is a 7inch tablet market is because the makers want to offer something different from apple and they make no profits on them at all.

For apple to make a 7 inch tablet is just bananas to me, people will want a 7 inch ipad for sure but not over a ipad or an iphone.

I could maybe understand a 10 inch and 8 inch ipad similar to how laptops come in 11 and 13 and 15 inch models, but at the price bracket these are coming in at the hardware has to suffer to actually compete with the cheapskate consumer that buys amazon tablets.

I mean price overides features for these customers and they are the furthest thing from apples consumers that you could find.

Oh well I suppose there is nothing wrong with a smaller ipad it just seems like more choice in a quite crowded area of apples domain that won't win any new sales but might make it much harder to deny getting apple over other tablets.

What I really hope is that this is just an updated dock to the current newipad...

The left one is for new iPod touch and right one for new iPhone.

Just because you write it in red, doesn't make it 'obvious' or true. Purple is the clear choice for that!

It wouldn't fit in the iPod touch moron.

Say wha? It's rumored to be a 7.85 inch device. That's not even 4mm off of your 8" device, that you see a potential reason for....

8" is hand bag/large pocket size. It's got little do with functionality, but rather practicality.

I like this line of thinking, and think it would be a good move to ditch the iPod touch line up, but that is said with a few caveats though. The rumored iPad mini would have to be extremely portable and it would also HAVE to be the same price as the iPod touch currently is.

It would then be great to see the iPod brand refocused on music, and for Apple to update the iPod classic and keep the nano (priced sub $100 as well).

A few things I noticed are the headphone jacks on the left are thinner and have a cut away on one side consistent with the curved back shell of the current iPad.

What I don't understand is why it would need to be black or white for the iPad.

The leak photos of the new iPhone show the colors wrap around the edges so it makes sense for the connectors to match the phone color but not with the iPad. This suggests the new iPad, iPad mini or whatever it is will also have a colored back shell rather than brushed aluminum.

So we could be getting new iPads with wrap around color, or a new bigger iPod touch or what if the connectors on the left are for a second iPhone? Maybe we are going to see the new stretched iPhone as well as a second one with a taller & wider display also, you never know!

New Dock Connector

The iPad jack and dock look way to close together.

If the distance between the dock connector and headphone jack are precisely the same as on the alleged next iPhone, look for a universal integrated Apple dock connector that uses both the "dock connector" and the headphone jack simultaneously.

won't happen. that means they will have to integrate that on the original ipad and all the small ipods which doesnt leave space for that.

what these leaks do prove is that they're fake. proportionately if they are the same distance, it makes NO sense. let me repeat.. NO sense.

iPad, iPad mini and iPad nano (iPod Touch)?

I feel like Apple may cannibalize the iPad's sales by releasing a mini, especially at that price point. Who would spend 600-800 on an iPad if they can get one thats 2 inches smaller for 250-300?
