IT does look like there are little indentions in the back corners for a locking connector (like for hanging an iPhone around your neck on a lanyard).

I doubt there's much more than a USB2/3 connector would have with only 8/9 pins, so it's a shame they are sticking with a proprietary connector still. (I understand the business reason for it, but I still dislike it).

i still think the head phone jack is too close to the dock on the ipad ribbon. however I'm starting to wonder whether this is a design flaw rather than anything else.

New smaller iPad name

I believe it will be called "Lil iPad"..... possibly pronounced lilly pad.

:D

Looking forward to the new iPhone. My iPhone 3GS is ready to be my new iPod touch/household remote. I think I'll hold off on upgrading my iPad 2 until next year. Even if they upgrade it this fall with the new docking port, I think waiting for the in-cell technology (as the new iphone is rumored to have) will be worth it.

Bring on the Lil iPad

doesnt the iphone part seem very wide to anybody? even the headphone jack to the dock connector seem far.

who the **** takes these pictures? you couldnt take a picture straight on so we can see if there are pins on the top too?

Or for that matter, a bunch of images so we can get a 3D view of it...
Or a video (same thing as above).

Why don't they make it magnetic like the laptop connectors? MagSafe should be on all Apple products!!!

iPad mini makes sense. Now that they've already dropped the numbers, there is no need to worry about some awkward name like "iPad mini 2".

iPhone components look very wide too me. Not sure if it's the smaller dock connector creating an illusion, or the fact that things get pushed together a bit when assembled inside the phone, but even still, it looks a lot wider then the current width. Anyone with me on this?

Some here have complained about MagSafe on iPhones because they personally find it safer to not have it. For me, MagSafe would be safer.

It cant be as obvious as this can it...? it seems like this is too easy to believe and its been a hassle free thing to report on. In the past desist orders would be given out to try and patch up any damage. Nothings been done this time...

They stopped that long ago.

So the ipad mini ports in black and white.... does this mean we are going to see black and white ipad mini(s)?

No.They will all be red,but you have the option of getting one with a black or white connector.

Could someone please just put one of these together already!?
Probably a stack of them sitting in a lab in Cupertino, California which is about 10 miles away.

Hey, if I spot one in a local beer garden, I'll try to take a picture of it! With this funky iPhone that I found in a bar yesterday!

:D

I agree with you. I love MagSafe. I think it was a mistake from the beginning not to make it MagSafe connectors for iPhone.

I'm having the same problem. I can't get this part into the "STD Mockup" we see all the time. Too wide no matter how you try. Something is up. :apple:

IDK guys the head phone jack and the connector are way far apart! I still don't understand why apple waited all these years to finally change the their iOS Devices connector...I foresee a lot of pissed off people who has (Like me) speakers and docks (Bose) for the 30 pin connector.

Perhaps the dock connector and headphone jack are on the TOP of the new iPad mini/nano.

All these years? You would prefer them to change their connector more often? If they have a proprietary connector, they better stick to it for a long time. Which they have done. Now it's time for a change.

Change can be painful, deal with it.

The thing I don't get is that on the current iPad, the dock connector is more curved down. That "new" connector is more square. So I guess the iPad Mini should be more of a rectangular device.
