awesome, but the black iphone is still the best. why dont you guys add a poll asking which iphone color is the best.

OK, so we're back to the more gold look, not Champagne! Swings and roundabouts.

Im thinking this is fake for a few reasons:

I think Apple would do the Champagne colour. Its passable. But I can't see them doing full on gold.

Would you really need to also spray the inside of the phone gold? i.e. the top of the PSB board? Im pretty sure the black, or white iphone doesn't have that bit painted black or white?!

----------

Yeah, b/c this is the ONLY new thing they'll offer in the iPhone 5S.

Yeah, because it'll also have a slight bump in CPU power, maybe a better camera and a fingerprint sensor. So much innovation.

The problem with gold, and why many people find it so ugly, is that it doesn't actually match or pair with any other colours. Just try...it never works!

right, that is why women wear it all the time...because it doesn't match anything.

----------

It's not about hating a gold phone, it's about feeling a disconnect with a company you were absolutely sure would never even consider making something as base as a gold phone.

It's like finding out your favorite hip hop radio station switched formats to Christian soft rock.

It's like discovering your favorite old school French restaurant installed a drive thru window.

It's like finding out the sophisticated company you eagerly bought all your thoughtfully designed, understated, elegant tech gear from, now sells cheesy bling like everyone else.

It's about Apple morphing from trend setter to trend follower.

McDonalds sells the fish filet and I still go to McDonalds. Get over yourself. Seriously.

To me the leaks today look like parts not yet finished. They have to be anodised or coloured yet I think. I'm no expert. But Apple releasing a gold iPhone? Not something an Apple in it's right mind would do.

Soo.... it's racist to say that this phone is for Saudis or Turks (because presumably you are one of those two), but it's perfectly cool to say its for the Chinese?

Got it....

That is exactly right...because my statement is backed by knowledge of business and world-wide accepted notions of culture....and the its for "Insert-any-middle eastern-or-Muslim-culture-name-here" is not based on understanding of where Apple is with its international business dealings or notions of culture.

And why would you think I am Saudi or Turk? Did you go peek at my last name and it confused you? Do you know how different Saudis are from Turks, both ethnically and culturally? I bet you do not.

Also, I am neither Saudi or Turk...I am 75% Northern European and 25% of Azeri heritage...if you even know what Azari is without googling.........

LOL, so if someone says this phone is for Saudis you consider it racist, but at the same time you say this phone is for Chinese. How is that less "racist" then?

you acknowledge regional tastes exist and yet manage to call it racist? good one.

Yes, because the ME does not have the same, widely-accepted, non-racist, association with the color Gold that the Chinese do...read a book, or two.

i still can't understand why apple changed to this, god even don't know...

You do not understand because you do not understand international business in the 21st century...but maybe you can learn..

MG Siegler has a post up about this alleged gold iPhone. Along with Rene Ritchie he's also hearing chatter that this does indeed exist. Although it apparently won't be bling gold as some mockups have depicted but a more muted tone. Rene Ritchie alter his mockup on iMore because he heard the same thing.

In Siegler's post he mentioned that gold is apparently one of the most popular after market color adjustments including cases. I can attest to this with some anecdotal evidence: I was at a going away party today for my nephew who is going to college. He has an iPhone and had it in a case. The back of the case looked gold. I asked him about it and he confirmed that it was gold. His mother who was sitting next to us jumped in and said "ooh, I'd love a gold phone". I was a bit shocked.

Then I came home flipped on the TV to watch the Great Food Truck Race on Food Network and several of the participants had iPhones in gold cases. And during a break a Michael Kors fragrance and beauty collection commercial came on and there was gold bling everywhere. I don't follow fashion much but maybe gold is back in fashion now and Apple is tapping in to that. Apple did hire the former CEO of YSL. He would know a thing or two about this. I'm taking a wait and see approach but am willing to give Apple the benefit of the doubt that they haven't jumped the shark (yet).

Oh and I just texted Rene's mockup to my sister (who's more in to fashion than I am) and she texted back "I like it!" I guess this could be a hit with chicks.

Please let this be a joke, please!

I can't believe Apple would be doing this, gold is pure kitsch. Design-minded Apple would never do that (not the Apple we know). It really focusses on the idea of "look what I've got" like those Arabs with their chrome super cars. If you're taking that turn in history as a company you know you've failed on other aspects and you're only making a style-accessory. A lot of (Android-) people see Apple as a manufacturer which only focusses on style, but that's not what Apple is about, not the Apple Steve Jobs built.

If Apple is really releasing a gold/champagne iPhone I'll yell "ABANDON SHIP!" and fear for the future of Apple (-products). Stocks would fall dramatically since it's not just a "gold/champagne colored iPhone", it's a statement, a statement current investors would not share.

Come on man, If an online leak of a RUMOURED phone makes you want to jump ship just over a colour you're pretty shallow.

I could post a random shot of a spray painted purple MBP and say "Apple to release Purple MBP in September" sit back and watch thousands of people go bananas about how Apple have lost the plot.

Wait until the keynote then pass judgement....

Hmmm. You think it's racist to say that Saudis and Turkish people will like the phone, and yet you clearly have no problem implying that Chinese people will lap it up. See any problems there?

Suggesting that people from a certain culture will like a certain colour isn't racist. It's not racist when people say it about Saudis and Turks, and it not racist when you say it about the Chinese.

Whilst we're about it, the British like drinking tea, Germans make great cars, and Irish people like a good drink. Perhaps this post will get deleted for its racist tone!

Well said, made me choke on me tea :eek:

lots of people like gold

Have you ever been to the Middle East? This region is just an example, but it shows that there is a large target group for this kind of gold/champagne design.
Wouldn't it perfectly integrate into Emirates First Class?:D

i bet you're getting one, i know you people.

Actually, no. I am not a fan of gold coloring for anything. But i understand most all the reasons for producing a device with this color.

I am more of the black-and-silver-modern-hipster-style ilk...for me black is the new black. My favorite colors are black, shades of black, and white. If there must be a color make it orange! See my MR icon to the left there...

You know, if I was trying to identify who was leaking parts photos, I would come up with a series of parts that were easily identifiable, then see whether those parts showed up online. I mean, if you made gold parts in a manner that was somehow identifiable, then wouldn't it be easy to track down who the culprits were?

This is already available for iPhone 5

Gold iPhone 5 chassis' have been widely available on the Chinese market for some time now. Not only in Gold, but blue, red, yellow, green, etc.

I don't think this can be completely confirmed until Apple ACTUALLY releases their "Zelda gold cart" iPhone.

Here's an example of one of the chinese gold iPhone 5 chassis:

The color isn't exact, but if you look hard enough I'm sure it could be found,

The rumor photos are most likely 3rd party manufactured chassis based on iPhone 5S dimensions and specs. I'd imagine they'd have that information at this point...
