I Can't Even Tell What Color It Is From The Leaks

The leak photos of this thing are all over the map. Some look "gold", some look "yellow", some look almost "copper". The ones in a champagne color actually look halfway decent - they remind me of stereo equipment or watches from the late '70s and early '80s, before silver (and later black) became the dominant colors.

I don't think it looks bad at all in champagne (although it's not really my taste).

Of course, you can already get iPhone 5's colored...

A fact which would make it easy for someone to create a fake colored iPhone 5 "prototype".

It's like finding out the sophisticated company you eagerly bought all your thoughtfully designed, understated, elegant tech gear from, now sells cheesy bling like everyone else.

It's about Apple morphing from trend setter to trend follower.

Are we talking about the same company that made these over the past two decades?

Ironically, this gold/champagne color actually is pretty uncommon and that makes sense because the color would work best with a metal phone. But metal construction in smartphone isn't common. I suppose HTC could do it with HTC One but so far there has been no sign. So it sort of makes sense for Apple to take advantage of the iPhone 5's material even though I'm not that fond of it personally.

Moreover when the iPhone 5C - or whatever it's going to be called - is released with multiple color options, there'll be writings on how Steve Jobs would've never allowed such travesty and Apple has changed. Those who remember the history will quickly chuckle and marvel at how so many can forget Steve Jobs Apple did pretty much everything people say he wouldn't have allowed.

Specially for the Middle East market and people with no taste.

Isn't it funny how people take a rumored color choice of a phone so seriously?

Oh my God Mercedes! I can't believe your color charts include Pantone TPX 12-1107! Only people in Saudi Arabia, North Korea and Little Rock, Arkansas are dorky enough to choose that color!

I'm thinking that these colour options may also vary the existing colours of the black and white models. Maybe they aluminium will be a darker grey - a kind of lighter lead colour for the white and perhaps a bluer black than the 'slate' of the iPhone 5. Perhaps the family of colours will be a lot more analogous to each other for the next generation. Might explain how the gold colour might not be as alien as we all imagine. It would certainly differentiate it from the pure colours of the 5C.

The lighting is maybe giving it very " yellow goldish " look . Iam sure it will be a champagne colour phone and if it gets released people will go and see it in real and say OMG it looks so amazing .
Apple is really not famous for making whacky stuff and this phone too in real will not look whacky .

Hilarious to read the neckbeards on here (1) pretending to know anything about style, and (2) predicting Apple's demise over another colour option in the iPhone lineup. For those of you who aren't actually in tune with fashion, I can inform you that metallics in general are very 'in', and in interior design brass (gold) and copper tones have been extremely trendy for the past year. If this gold option actually turns out to be real I think it will do well with the general public.

Nothing. Ming and MacRumors live in symbiosis. The real losers are us, who hang around here wasting our lives talking about these rumors month after month while they are thriving from our visits and clicks. Gotta love the modern world. ;)

Yup. I may actually stop commenting on here, It's all Paid samsung trolls these days, just trying to bait. Well certainly the news articles. The forums are still useful.

Gross. But I like the idea of having a few more colors to choose from.

It's sad. MR have changed what they post as news the last couple of years. I miss good solid product rumors.

If this is a way Apple's going to try to uphold their premium product reputation in the face of releasing colorful plastic iPhones, it's a sad day for this company. Just release the lower quality iPhones and be happy.

Well there is the 24 .ct gold, Rose Gold and Platinum plated HTC One. Although they are sold by Gold Genie and not directly from htc. The Gold platted ones are about $2,500 and the Platinum platted one is about $2,700.

They also have the gold and platinum platted iPhone 5 which sells for about $1,000. Biggest difference would be they they are actually gold and platinum platted instead of just having that color look. Don't care for these, but there is a market out there for those who want to burn a few grand. The Platinum looks much better than the gold or rose gold.

Or for just $75,000 you can buy a solid gold iPhone 5

Not really. The Middle East is known for a love of gold-color items.

Emerging Markets

If this comes out, I bet this will be the high end phone to compete with the iPhone 5C in both India and China. Consumers in those countries will likely see the gold iPhone as more elitist and more will want it. Both those countries have strong cultural and social interest to gold, as opposed to the social hipster interest in minimalism in the US that makes the simple black and white options popular here. With both this and the iPhone 5C, Apple will be able to capture the emerging market volume with the cheap phone while properly price discriminating buyers in those countries with a phone color that is ingrained as higher value / class for their cultures.

For all the morons that ever said "but how will people know I upgraded?" now there is an option for you.

Maybe it's magnesium. Hello ultra-light iPhone 5S! Gold would be too soft for a uni-body chassis.
