Good for you for having purchased the app years ago and got free updates.

But I purchased the app 2 months ago. And App Store page didn’t mention whether Pro version is forthcoming.
Contact Pixelmator and ask them! Don’t whine here! They might offer a refund or at least a discount!

One time... yeah... until they bring on top of Pro the Ultimate version.. I really don’t get why new app unless you want to cash out old customers. Then at least you could be frank about it.
I bought Pixelmator back in June 2012 for € 14,99 or something. On the October 6, 2017 I still got a free update. I'm not entirely sure how anyone could complain about that...

One problem is that if you purchased Pixelmator recently, lack of upgrade path means having to fork $59 to purchase the app again.

I would've preferred Pro as IAP to existing Pixelmator (similar to Omni's apps).
So it’s fine as long as it’s a $59 in-app purchase.

No, Pixelmator is more like Photoshop.

I know that. Pixelmator is document based while Lightroom is a library. I dont care at all about Lightroom’s library features, I just use the develop module. Basically I want to know is this can replicate the functionality of Adobe Camera Raw.

I realize $59.99 is an introductory price ($99.99 after), but your argument is also unfair. EVERYONE is getting Pixelmator Pro for $59.99 I paid $29.99 2 months ago for Pixelmator. It should be $29.99 or 39.99 introductory pricing for Pro IAP.

Why should it? Learn your lesson and look at the developers website in the future before buying something, why buy something uninformed?
Can you tell me where on their Pixelmator for Mac website mentions that Pro version is forthcoming?

Man, you folks are frigging jerks. All I said is lack of upgrade path is regrettable. I wrote:
It looks like there's no upgrade path from Pixelmator to Pixelmator Pro. Just $59 introductory price offered to everyone. Still, I think those who prefer standalone pricing will find it a huge win.
I am glad several of you purchased the app years ago and follow Pixelmator on Twitter or Facebook and saw that Pro version is forthcoming. I guess I am a whining sucker for not following them on social media and paid full $29.99 two months ago.

True but if I knew that Pro version is forthcoming, which isn’t mentioned on App Store page, I would’ve waited. While Apple is also at fault for not providing upgrade path, a simple IAP for Pro feature would’ve been fairer.

I agree with prior posters that these apps are so affordably priced (and they are giving an introductory price for a short while to try to address people such as yourself) that people really need to stop and realize what they are complaining about. Don't we all want quality programs? But no-one wants to pay anything for them.

Not really jerks, just practical. You are upset because you feel cheated but its not the case. You still have pixelmator (which I don't as I'm waiting for PRO) that you can use. You purchased that program because after a trial you probably realised that it fits your needs and therefore you got the value back.
Now, they are releasing new program so don't expect to get it for free. Its up to their discretion to maybe consider your timing and offer a good will gesture but thats about it.
If you bought iPhone 7 2 months ago you would complain the same way? Its simple, do your research and then pull the trigger. Let this be a good lesson for next time. Simple as that.
We are not jerks, just stating that your anger is unreasonable and actually caused by you and you only. Don't blame Apple or others for not showing you that there might be an update.

Some companies NEVER show in advance what they are going to release and one day its out. Simple

...edit multiple RAW images as layers in a single document using all the additional image detail saved in your RAW files.

I'm happy with Affinity but this sounds like a killer feature.

I wasn't expecting an upgrade to Pro for free. That would be ridiculous. The standard version costs $29.99 and Pro version costs $99.99 (temporarily discounted to $59.99).

All I said was (1) lament on the lack of upgrade path for my recent purchase and (2) the company pre-announced Pro version outside their website and App Store page, which I thought was unfair.

I even admitted that even without upgrade path, standalone pricing is a huge win to those who oppose subscription pricing.

After that, several of you labeled me for whining.

And as for your iPhone comparison, that's not a fair comparison. Pixelmator is a software. Software can be replicated at no cost to the developer. Offering a recent purchase grace period, IAP, or other loyalty based incentive, is a gesture that does not cost the developer any money, EXCEPT for the time it takes to build that feature.

I use OmniFocus, and it's a good example of "Pro" offering done right. You purchase the standard version at $39.99 and you can pay $39.99 more for "Pro Upgrade" IAP. Now it's entirely possible that Pixelmator and Pixelmator Pro are vastly different software and it's not practical for them to share the code base. I can totally accept that. As comparison, iMovie vs. Final Cut X.

It's also entirely possible that the time it takes to build IAP or mechanism to offer discount toward recent purchase is not trivial. I can totally accept that. And I totally accept that my 2-month old purchase will continue to work. But my thoughts are still valid and I am allowed to express my opinions without being labeled a whiner.

Microsoft Office 365 team is also on the same floor, rolling with laughter, considering they are offering a plethora more of standalone apps working on a synchronized system of web, mobile and desktop, for about the same $99 or even lesser price, while for the price, Affinity is offering just two.
Two questions: how do you edit a RAW image in Excel and how long can you use this plethora of stand-alone apps when you stop paying the annual $99 subscription?

It will be hard to catch up with Affinity Photo.

Pixelmator was great, until Affinity Photo came. I switched to Affinity, and I don't see any feature that will make me come back.
Agreed. I liked Pixelmator, but Affinity Photo is so much more powerful (and often faster) that I haven't touched it once in the last two years. While Pixelmator Pro sounds like an improvement over the regular version, I don't see anything that would make it more appealing than AP.

I used to love Pixelmator, but after *years* of asking for arrowheads on the ends of lines and some basic object alignment tools, I've given up and gone back to Adobe's software. Adobe's stuff costs more, but it does what I need.
Try Affinity Photo/Designer.

The point was something different. I replied to and in, the spirit of a certain response about how Affinity devs would be laughing and rolling on the floor for offering two apps for the price of one. :)

Still a faulty comparison (especially since you have to pay $99 annually for Office 365).

The comparison is absolutely faulty, I know and agree. But I wasn't making a comparison there. I was replying and responding to a specific post.

In the post, the point that for $99, Affinity gives two apps whereas Pixelmator Pro is 1 app for $99, is faulty as well, because they are giving it for $59 at the moment. The $99 is reserved price for later on, and we don't know when that later on will come.

So I was essentially just doing an "if this then that", I wasn't making a proper comparison at all.

I love Pixelmator and I really can’t wait for this.

Will their be a new app as well, or can we get the current app to iCloud sync with this new version?

You are whining. Tell yourself that your thoughts are "valid" all you want; they show a spoiled personality. Your entire point is that, even though the introductory pricing will discount the standard price software by exactly the amount you recently paid, you're still not satisfied because other people will get the discount, too.

Guess what? Yet more people won't buy it within the introductory pricing window, and will pay slightly more for the same bits in the future! There will probably also be sales at some point, and it may at times be available to buy for even less money! Maybe it will be a huge success, the developers will realise they undercharged, and raise prices even higher! Who knows?! That's life.

Lots of developers don't respect their customers or provide them with value for money. It seems to be the pretty-much universal opinion of this community that Pixelmator do.

Just grow up. Buy it or don't. Nobody cares.
