I've been coming to this, and the former "New iBooks Next Tuesday?" thread (R.I.P.), for months and months. Not to mention waiting for the update for so many months.
I would just like to say Yippeee, they're finally here!
But I'm not all that impressed, think I'll wait for the next updates. When are updated powerbooks expected? Next tuesday I guess.....

and thus the thread continues (i was clever enough to make the name of this thread ibook/powerbook next tuesday??? so that when the ibook comes out, we then gotta know when the powerbook comes out, and then over and over again!!!! SUCCESS!!!!!!!!)

All in all, a great day. I just wish MA tax free day was sooner than 8/13. Anyone know how long it takes from placing an order for an ibook w/80g hard drive until it arrives?

I just ordered the new 12" with 80g hard drive. The order status shows shipping on or before August 2.

Yay, just ordered my brand new 12" stock iBook. SOOOOO HAPPPPPPYYYYY. Ofcourse I rewarded the guy who spilled the beans to me yesterday (all info 100% accurate he gave me) with a nice eassssyyyyy laydown sale of the iBook and a iPod Mini as his reward!!!!!

I don't think this will affect the sales of Powerbooks much (apart from maybe the 12"). I am still happy I ordered a 17" powerbook :)

Also, thinksecret says the new 32mb video in the new ibooks does not support core-image?

Anyone know the bus speed of the new ibooks?

There's multiple threads about how the 9550 is just a slower 9600. It should suport core-image...I hope

Having waited for so long, I was so happy to put in the order, (see my sig.) It's just a pity the "New iBooks Next Tuesday?" thread didn't last to see the great day.

Just ordered mine yesterday. (It is now Wednesday 2.30am in Australia). Sadly, it's not for me, but for my brother. We're upgrading it to 1.5GB not via Apple of course, Corsair DDR400 (though the iBook is 333).

It's a shame my 12" PB Rev. D did not come with 512MB built-in but rather 256+256. I have 768 in this machine but it's still "better" than the iBook I've just ordered. Also upgraded the baby to 80GB so it's BTO, taking a few more days to arrive. It should be here next week or 'on or before' 10th August. I'm very happy that Apple have used one DIMM of 512MB and have included things like SMS and two finger scrolling (though I know it is just a driver). Well done on this upgrade!

Why does apple charge such an obseen amount for extra ram...

All of them do. Sometimes you get a deal at Dell for more RAM, but look at how much they charge for it without those "specials". It costs more for them to configure a device vs. a standard config, even with the discount they get on bulk purchases. You are paying for labor and parts. And often they pay a set price, so when prices fall, it takes awhile for everything to be updated to match the newer prices.
