1) It's not gonna be called the G5, as the whole 'G' thing is "generation" (of PowerPC), and that name is joint-trademarked by Apple, Motorolla (as well as the new Freescale) and IBM
2) I'm guessing they'll keep the same case-design for a few years, the same way they kept with the candy-ish plastic over multiple generations

Guyz, I t00k this pic at the apple HQ. dont tell anyone I have this pic!

I think they wil keep the same case design/materials, but will darken the grille color to a darker grey. The extra space in the current case design wil be put to good use: 2nd processor, hdd bay, cooling system.

Or they could just add another 8 RAM bays..... ;)

Hey, how did you get that photo?!

Thats it, I am calling the Apple Police ;)

...just kidding, I won't rat you out. :)

Once you use that winky face the smile and explanation becomes wholly redundant.

hahahahaha! :D

do you really THINK they will do that? why?

or do you mean you would like to see them make it a darker grey. i know this is a rumors site but come on.

RAM slots don't really take any space compared to HDD bays ;)

They will if we add say another 16 on top of the extra 8 on top of the current 8, can you imagine that? A new tower, with, upon the addition of 32 2GB sticks, 64GB RAM, space for 8 HDD's (4TB in total), an SLI enabled motherboard with 2 PCIe 16x slots, 4 PCIe 8x slots and 4 PCI-X 133MHz slots, 2 Firewire 1600 ports, 4 Firewire 800 ports, 4 Firewire 400 ports, 8 USB 2.0 ports and built in WI-MAXin addition to current wireless standards and aso including wireless USB and Firewire controllers. The ability to run pro graphics cards with support for up to 8 dual-link DVI monitors. A 16x Dual-layer superdrive and a Blu-Ray reading/recording/rewriting drive. Fully contained liquid sodium cooling system (it won't leak on the carpet ;) and it's quiet as a mouse) Dual fibre channel connections, dual gigabit ethernet, built in ADSL2+ and cable modems as well as a 56k modem (optional...;)).

One configuration, $10 000.

How's that for over the top?

(now that I've written it, I'm sitting here going "yeah, they will actually go for it".....ah well)

I see whatever they come up with being very slender, nothing like the big box they have now. They will be able to cram everything into it. Look at the Cube! And I saw this in another thread and I agree with it, that it would be cool to have a black anodized aluminum case. (real time thought: I just changed to a different song on my ipod and thought how long it will be until Apple uses the pressure sensors like in mighty mouse in the ipod wheel so you dont actually have to press the select button or menu. just a thought)

Just a reminder to everyone out there still calling it G6....... G3, G4 and G5 have all reffered to the processor type.... So, since there is no G6 processor in the upcoming Powermacs there is no way it will be called G6.

I also don't think Apple will call it a PowerMac G6 as it doesn't make any sense to call it a G6. I don't think Pontiac (with the G6), or Canon (with the PowerShot G6)would have an issue with Apple calling the PowerMac a G6 if they did go there, but the way everyone is suing Apple, you never know.

I just hope they don't go with the white polycarbonate plastic for the case. I'm getting so sick and tired of this case material. Its time for Apple to move on with new designs and materials. I do love the aluminum look though. I just bought a 17" PowerBook and it looks absolutely beautiful IMO. Far better than any iBook, iMac G5, etc using the white plastic cases.
