In the narrow context of how fast that DIMM will get data onto a memory bus., yes.

In terms of performance that the user will perceive, there are numerous other factors that play a roll. For example, the upcoming i7 version of the iMac will get more throughput to memory than the currently shipping iMacs will with exactly the same kind of memory plugged in.

Historically, desktops will leverage memory clocked faster than laptops earlier in the product revision cycle. That's where more of the differences have sprung from. If not pushing the bleeding edge, which Apple does not, not much of a difference other than form factor at the DIMM level.

thanks for that.

the next upgrade should be pretty impressive with Core i3 and Core i5 (already iMac is impressive)

I've got to say these teardowns are of limited interest. 99.9% of us will never use or need this information. An internal view of a Mac Pro is much more interesting because the typical user can go into a Mac Pro without fear of not being able to put it back together.

99.9% ? Did you conduct a survey for that or did you pull it from a dark place ? :D

Hmm, anyone know if its possible to take the Optical Drive out of the 27" iMac and replace it with some sort of Express Card Port or eSata Port.

The 27" iMac is perfect for me except for the lack of high speed connectivity. And I am determined to change that!

iMac/online poker

I was wondering with the new Imac, when you are playing online poker full tilt poker, can you have the table blow up to the full size of the 27" screen? I ask this because with the web window you can't.

Smaller Model for me

I am leaning toward the 21.5" model for several reasons. It is 20 pounds lighter, uses much less power, is less expensive, I DO NOT want a 1 TB hard drive which is way, way larger than I'd ever need.

I'd prefer to put a couple of dollars in to a Blue-ray player/burner & maybe upgrade the video card.

The physical size of the bigger monitor & hard drive is simply TOO BIG. I'd have to sit on the other side of the room to see the entire monitor.

To me, the smaller price & monitor is a better value for the dollars spent.
