New remote is kinda ugly?

While it seems like an improvement ease-of-use wise..

..I think it's a missed opportunity not using the iMac coloring scheme for the AppleTV remote.

Yes, I think it looks terrible next to the existing remote.

Maybe putting on a coloured cover that completely obscures the aluminum would help.

I must say the new remote looks more practical but I will continue using my Harmony to control my Apple TVs.

I said the same thing on a Facebook post and some agreed while other didn't. The colour may be the next thing that owners want changed.

You want a PlaySkool remote to match the PlaySkool iMacs? SMH. The iMac colors are a cheesy gimmick, no need to extend that into the ATV or its remote. The previous ATV remote was difficult to use... this one appears to be an improvement. Take the win.

I never had an issue with the previous Siri Remote, though I do think the circle motion for scrubbing will be useful on the new remote. I also think it's kinda ugly. I will have to try it out to know if I'd prefer it or not to the current one, but I am not going to get a new one until I eventually upgrade from my 4th gen Apple TV. I don't have a 4K TV yet.

A gripe I had with the old one was the orientation in a dark room. There was a hard time wrapping your head around whether you picked it up right side up or up side down. 🔺🔻

Is this ugly to you? I see no difference between this get and the newer one. More black buttons sure but basically the same look.
Imac colors? As in fruity colorful stuff? No that stuff to me looks bad. Id prefer black but silver is fine. I don't like my electronics to have wild obnoxious colors. I prefer the raw aluminum look. Id rather have space grey or darker but normal aluminum is fine and easier to find in the bed.

That's the 2nd generation remote. First gen was the white plastic remote that came with AppleTV gen 1. The gen 2 remote came with AppleTV gen 2 and 3... the Siri Remote was gen 3 (AppleTV 4/4K) and the latest is gen 4 with the new AppleTV 4K.

Have to see it in action... may be as finicky as the existing version. Reminds me of the old iPod click wheel.

My big issue has more to do with my cat interacting with it than anything else. Damn thing turns the TV on and off, et al. I swear it was designed for a cat.

I like the industrial aluminum look. I liked the older aluminum remote too.
But looks are extremely less important to me than function, especially for something like a remote. I find the current black Siri remote insufferable. The new remote looks leagues better functionally. Can’t wait to try it out.

I know what you mean, and I found mine impossible to use until I stopped swiping and started tapping the Siri remote with my thumb near the edges: four taps near the right hand edge to move four apps over. Three taps near the bottom to go three apps down. Works fine then. Almost impossible to use by swiping😉👍😇
