This fix works. My multitouch gestures in safari and chrome would freeze sometimes and since switching this setting it hasn't acted up (12+ hours and counting).

It does not seem to fix the issue for me, I still keep on getting keyboard/trackpad error messages in my logs.

I'm getting random freezes, similar to what you guys are describing in Mavericks on an early 2011 MBP too; so it's not likely to be a hardware issue.

Make sure you guys report it though - more reports = faster at getting things fixed.

No freezes for me as well, but some scrolling issues in preview still.

Got a second freeze on rMBP 15" 2012 running OS X 10.9. Again while doing a multi-touch gesture/transition. Definitely a SW issue. I now reset SMC and PRAM but doubt it will be enough.

I've run into all sorts of issues on Mavericks so far. Lockups/failure to login properly etc... I know that a .0 release is supposed to be buggy, but....

Unless you're a developer all you can do is wait for Apple to release 10.9.1 where they will hopefully fix some of the bugs.

I have the same problem. Can you check (by opening "Console") whether you have an error message like this?

Code:
kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

It seems that many users on this forum are experiencing this problem, on the Apple support forum there's a thread about it as well.

It could be a hardware issue, for example a loose cable. I'm wondering whether all users have it (in which case a software issue seems more likely), or whether the group of users experiencing this problem is actually quite low. In that case I think it might be a hardware issue.

I got that same error which I posted about here: New rMBP Froze!

Mine seems to freeze about 1-2 times a day. Tapping the power key then quickly waking it up has worked for me so far. Haven't had to force a shutdown since.

Mine froze again. Apple, please fix this!! I was in the middle of researching for an assignment, so it's good Chrome was able to restore my open tabs.

I experienced a couple freezes and a sudden reset when I upgraded to Mavericks on a 2010 MBP. Haven't experienced any since the first day.

This was all while running in clamshell and external monitor.

Perhaps it's software...well, hopefully anyway!

Just because it happened again, don't mean its a hardware issue.
Its more the likely some sort of bug in Mavericks, its still a very fresh OS, and will have some bugs in the beginning.

Mavericks doesn't freeze on my 2010 15" MBP.

I got mine yesterday, and it froze for the first time today, about 3 hours ago. I was writing a word doc and it just became unresponsive to any keyboard/trackpad input. A reboot fixed it and it hasn't happened again.

Good news is that its showing up all over the web on many sites. It's clearly an issue that is affecting a wide range of users, so it's only a matter of time now until Apple does something about it.

I just had a major freeze, with no crash report.
Had to do a cold start
This happened to a mba in the store and the genius was embarrassed.
Glad I got 4 year warranty :D
Nevertheless I hope this is a software issue. It happened about 4 times in the last 24 hours. ( Ive been on the rmbp all that time)
How frequent is it with you guys?

and here i thought i had perfect machine , just stopped responding. Closing the lid and reopening fix it, strange.

#trackpadgate

As sb mentioned above and LOT of ppl already do: I recommend to tweet about it #trackpadgate

Chat to support, it only costs 3 minutes and makes them aware:

https://getsupport.apple.com/ConfirmationAction.action#

DO NOT let them tell you it is unknown. Point them to the 35 (!!!) pages at the Apple support forum:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5481839?start=510&tstart=0
This must be thousands of ppl unhappy with brand new MBP. Including myself.

Mention the problem here, HW issue, product feedback:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Always mention to send your brand new machines back. Companies only act if it costs them money and / or reputation.

We need a fix as quickly as possible.

I will try having sth connected to USB which might help (?) -- Any feedback on this yet?

Woah, woah. Hold your horses. We don't know yet whether this is a hardware issue with the new models or a software issue with Mavericks. The comments I've read point to software because it's happening on older models. If that's the case, wait patiently for 10.9.1. Tweet about it, comment about it, go to the Genius Bar if you're terribly concerned. But going overboard and contacting Apple through every possible means will not bring a fix any sooner. Returning your machine won't convince them to do anything; they'll turn around and sell it on the Refurbished store in a few months. Just be PATIENT. I'm sure they're well aware of this issue by now since most of the tech sites have reported about it and asked them for comment.

Has anyone returned and exchanged for another? Has it had the same problem? Anyone have a 13" that doesn't freeze? Thanks

People have tried exchanges and seen freezes on replacements. One can go a while without a freeze - I got mine on Thursday and only saw the first freeze yesterday. Saw a 2nd today. So again - it might take a while to manifest, or it might happen to some soon after they unbox the machine.

There might be some issues with Mavericks on other models, but you can bet that something is wrong with regards to the 13" late-2013 rMBP specifically. It seems to be power management/USB related, could be software/hardware, who knows. What if there's a bad controller chip used on these - who'd want to go through logic board replacements on new machines?

I'd stay away if you don't already have one for now - just wait. Its a wonderful machine - aside from this issue, but no one should have to deal with this sort of hanging nonsense.

I love the machine but I am going to return it next week. Very sad about it. Reinstalled Mavericks and it froze immediately after I started Safari. Senior tech at Apple had me do the clean install. I called him back but no answer yet.

If you are reluctant to return your machine (eg if it's a software problem, as the Apple threads seem to indicate, a replacement will have the same issue), you may try inserting a cheap USB RAMStick as a hack.

I've been reading that leaving such a stick in all the time may prevent the machine from freezing (it decreases or eliminates the number of error messages being spit out on the console, apparently).

For those of you with a freezing rmbp, I'd like to hear if this hack really works...

How many people is this really an issue with? On the Apple support discussions it seems like a lot but not so much here.

It appears to be everyone with a 13" Haswell rMBP who doesn't either have a Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse or USB Storage/Input device connected to their machine.

Keep in mind that the freezes can occur days apart, and the system will come out of it after several minutes or by putting it to sleep for a minute and waking it up again.

The Apple Support Discussion threads on the subject have a number of people stating that support is telling them it's definitely software related and is being worked on.
