I just returned it. I'm sure if I fought hard Apple or Best Buy would've given me a brand new one, but I figured it's not worth the fight and I don't want to deal with it...would rather wait for the new rMBP and by then I'm sure there will be new sales. :)

I am almost certain they would not have given you a new one. You bought a used open box item. They also have different levels of classification: geek squad certified, excellent, good, fair, poor. My money is on it being labeled poor and you just over-looked it.

----------

So either the person you spoke to is lying or you're making this up yourself. Apple has employees in the stores, I know several of them personally.

They do. At least the stores with the dedicated apple area. They are apple employees, not BB employees.

Your money is completely on the wrong thing. It was labeled "Excellent" with "No cosmetic" or other damages. The "Apple" guy even said he overlooked this issue and they tried to sell me an iffy item. When I called Apple, this serial number already had notes on it from a previous buyer about certain problems, like the keyboard keys coming off. Don't underestimate the stupidity and laziness of people working at Best Buy. They rarely care about their job, you can see it in their faces. They also said they received this item from another store they hated, but never told me prior to purchase. They just wanted to get rid of it and poor old me was the victim.

BB cuts their check, not Apple. Apple has a higher standard when they do repairs or any refurbished items. I've never had a problem with Apple repairs, and I've done over dozens at different Apple stores in the L.A. area.

Jesus Christ, I've been a member of this forum for God knows how long, why would I lie about such things? What do I gain from it? This original post was just about my experiences, from happiness to sadness within a day period. As much as I dislike corporate schlubs like BB, I wouldn't make such things up. An Apple support supervisor told me over the phone.

Kind of odd to ask about a purchase after the fact, no?

I doubt the next iteration of the 15" will be earth-shattering.

How is it odd? I had a 14 day return window, I was wondering if anyone liked the price and condition I got it for, for an open box item labeled "excellent" (not Geek Squad certified, and I doubt that would have made a difference).

After I received my money they went ahead and put it back on display. How is that a moral thing to do?I told them return this to Apple or BB shipping headquarters somehow, and I doubt they listened. I didn't want another person to get a lemon.

Interesting how you jumped all over the second part of my comment and completely ignored the first part (where I said the person you called could have lied). The people wearing the black polos in Best Buy Apple sections ARE Apple employees, not Best Buy employees. That's a cold hard fact.

Apple supervisor over the phone lied?

Ok show me proof they are Apple employees and their checks are cut by Apple.

Show me proof.

Obviously you did, else you wouldn't have gotten your panties in a bunch over it asking for proof.

You asked, I delivered, no need to be so juvenile about it.

There is no prize for your work. Time could have been spent more wisely.

No one really cares.

So now that you're proven wrong, it no longer matters? How can you expect anyone to take you seriously when you refuse to acknowledge when you're clearly and obviously wrong?

Because the three seconds it took to find that was just too much to waste, right?

Why are we fixating on something as small as an Apple supervisor saying Best Buy does not carry Apple employees...the bigger picture here is a specific Best Buy trying to masquerade as a high-standard (as high as Apple) reseller of an open-box item that is clearly not up to par of Apple (and in this case, it seems that it WAS really an Apple employee) and them trying to sell it to a (new) customer. There was no label of damage on the box itself. A BB supervisor was selling this to me.

Are you all so clearly blinded by consumerism that you can't see the wrong here? The Apple guy at the BB I went to needs to be accountable for this. This is not human error. People need to do their job right, that's why they're paid. In my dayjob, if I screw up once, I'll be fired - and I will fire someone else if they screw up.

In the beginning of this thread, you claimed it was a BBY employee masquerading as an Apple employee, now you're saying it was a BBY supervisor you spoke to. You're also still trying to downplay the fact that you were dead wrong about the presence of Apple employees in Best Buy stores, and you actually doubled down on that claim when initially questioned. What I can't understand is why you a) didn't ask to check out the item in person at the store before purchase, b) read the terms and conditions on open-box items, or c) bothered to verify exactly who you originally spoke to. There is no case of being "blinded by consumerism" here, just a lot of questions regarding some discrepancies and inconsistencies with your story and how it's changed in this thread.

There was no prize for your snide answer either, yet you still gave one.

I don't think I need the approval of a stranger on the internet on what I do with my spare time. Thanks for your concern though, I'll be sure to check with you next time I decide to do a quick Google search.

As for the matter at hand, I wouldn't have bought an open box product before inspecting it, but that's just me. Hence my very first post saying you should've done this prior to purchase.

I would never buy anything else than new pr refurbished by Apple. These are great. OP, watch the refurb store, you might get a good deal on a refurb 2013 model, which is just as good :D
