awesome! that blows away the price of apples. not quite as nice, but for what id be doing.. browsing the web and email and the occasional yahoo game lol. its perfect. I'll be purchasing one this week!

You can find a used 24" Cinema Display on ebay for $400-500 if you wait for a deal. Unmatchable picture quality compared to the Samsung....just a slightly smaller screen.

dang i never even thought about that. thanks for the heads up! ive used ebay for eveerything but i never thought about an ACD on there. nice!

maybe i should just hope i can find a 30" for 500=)

It looks like a decent display, but I'd rather have 2560x1440 with a 27-inch panel.

FYI, ASUS released a cheaper LED IPS panel for 400-500 and it looks like it can hold its own against the ACD. Sure no aluminum and design is kinda gaudy but otherwise, the screen itself from what i've heard has good colors.

I didn't even notice the resolution last night.

I wouldn't want a 27" 1920x1080 display regardless of panel type.

im in the market for an ED, whered you pick that up and how much did ya give for it sir?

I got it brand new off eBay, from a seller who's no longer selling -- I think I paid like $800. Dell warranty, everything. There's another eBay seller that seems legit to me.

If you watch Dell's site, you can see when they knock off $100, which they do every now and then.

It's an excellent monitor, as many others have said. True, it's CCFL backlit rather than LED, but I can live with that. It has a great range of adjustment, too.

Vertical bars

Hi,

Nice post buddy, i've a MBP too and i wanted to buy a monitor for it...i'm really interested in this one, the only thing that stops me is the black vertical bars on the side...so i wanted to ask you if you could fix that problem...

thanks

That's just the result of the OP not using his computer in clamshell mode. Once you hook up your MBP to the monitor and close the lid, the black bars should go away because the aspect ratio will adjust to the screen.

The keyboard is part of the ventilation system where heat can escape, so closing the lid leads to higher temps.

actual temps in clamshell mode or normal mode only fluctuate between 1 and 3 degrees difference. wich is minor...

theres is no monitor on the market with the same specs for more then 300 less then an ACD unless its a special reduced price.

Temp difference may be minor, but I've definitely seen my fans run at a lot higher RPM in order to keep temps low.

i dont think going out of clamshell makes such a difference. first your mbp will be providing graphics to 2 screens, and ofcourse it runs hotter if your GPU needs to work harder for more pixels

no, the keyboard isn't significant source of heat transfer. if you look inside the case, there is barely any space for air to actually enter.however, the lid closed does impede cooling as there is less surface area for the air to make contact with.

Ah, I used the wrong term. What I really meant was that with the laptop closed, heat from the CPU/GPU has to travel through the keyboard AND screen, which is less efficient than just the keyboard alone.

Thanks for your answer!. Last question, what if i want to use de macbook with the lid open (dual monitor), is there any way to do it (with full aspect ratio on the external monitor)?
