So I got the drive today, took several pictures, installed it and all; I'm still trying to figure out how to clone my Windows partition.

This drive does feel bit faster than my previous drive; however it is also louder; I can hear the spinning disk, but it's not annoying; therefore if you want a silent computer, this isn't for you.

    Anyways here are the pictures:

    No 3G. It's a fake!

    Wait...

    Oh, it's not the iPhone...

This place sure takes a toll on you before Keynotes.

you can use Winclone to image the bootcamp partition, just make sure to have an external disc ready, which you do.

any annoying noises with the drive? the 320's, in my experience, 1/2 of the click every 3-5 seconds. The other half is fine. Its not accessing either, its the disc parking the heads, very annoying.

Thank you for the BootCamp thingy.

As with the noises, there is the clicking and there is the spinning sound. It's actually pretty annoying if you listen closely...

Forgot sorry; lucky I didn't put up the full 8MP images...

    Will do.

So...do you not like the drive because of the clicking and spinning noise? Is it louder than your original HD or is it obnoxiously loud? I have the 7200RPM 200GB. I wonder if it is louder than it. I hope its not too bad. How's the heat...any difference that you notice. I should have mine tomorrow. Is there any things I should look out for when opening up my MBP. Thanks in advance for the info.

At present AFAIK those drives only come in enclosures, but you use say CCC first to clone your drive to the new one, boot from it,so you know your drive is not DOA and then swap them over, you then have a nice new external that was once your internal. The Only drawback of this is you have probably voided the warranty on the new drive for taking out of it's enclosure

Is that case bus powered? Or do you need AC power at all time?

It's not obnoxious; it's a bit louder than the 320GB WD Scorpio; It does not get hotter; I can't say what you should watch for except be careful and use the right tools; don't compromise.

They only sell the combo at the moment; no I used the enclosure for my old 320GB drive.

    I posted the screenshot above.

Yes I called to asked about the enclosure and yes it voids the enclosure warranty; the HDD has it's own 3 year warranty backed by Samsung. In short, after removal, enclosure=no warranty, drive=3 years.

Yes as long as you use a 5400RPM drive it is bus powered; if you use a 7200RPM drive, it would be bus powered on Firewire, possibly not USB (some drives can be USB bus powered)

I'll try my 7200RPM drive in the enclosure tonight...after I swap it out for my 500 GB one. I'll let you know if you can use USB bus power for a 7200RPM drive. I pretty sure FW will work though.

I do have a the 200GB 7200RPM drive that came with the computer and it does run on USB bus; I just don't know if all 7200RPM drives will.

    Anyways, here is HDTune:

Looks like transfer rates are similar to 200GB 7200RPM/320GB 5400RPM, too bad 500GB comes with 3 platters and doesn't have increased platter density.

SSHDD? Is that a hybrid or the Solid State you're refering to; and yes the SSDs are expensive and the cheaper ones with MLC are the suck.
