I have to ask. Why does samsung advertise that you can send pictures to another phone by touching them? isnt that a step backward? My iPhone can send a photo to anybody in the entire world almost instantly. So why is this a feature for samsung?

In this age of a global village, where you could send a photo to one or a thousand people in a second, Samsung is trying to corner the one-on-one lets get it on movement.

Another good commercial, besides the mountain climbing death one, would be some guy on the subway bumping pictures of his wang to everyone as he jostles by.

Certainly such an anti establishment feature does not require pre authorization or even any kind of authorization. That would decrease its real world usefulness by a lot.

Another commercial could be a guy taking a cool picture on his iPhone and then sending it instantly to a bunch of friends who have the samsung s4. Then they could each bump the iPhone photo to one other person.

Samsung S4, not for taking pictures, but for sending them one at a time to another person who is right next to you and probably could actually just look at the picture on your phone because your so close so there is no big rush to transfer it to them immediately.

Samsung Galaxy s5 introduces Bumpmail. The only phone in the world where you can write an email to your friend standing right next to you and deliver it to their Samsung Galaxy S5 by colliding your phone into your friends Samsung Galaxy S5.

Samsung Galaxy S6 provides Bumptunes. The only device where you can have your favorite music delivered directly to your phone when in extremely close proximity to your favorite band. If you get in reach to touch them you might be able to use Bumpbucks and buy their latest single. You could rush the stage at your favorite festival and get that song in your phone, almost instantly! *

* Bumptunes will NOT work with bass players equipped with the Samsung Galaxy S6.

It really pains me to see Apple getting bullied by Samsung. It's not like theres anything wrong with what Samsung are doing, but it pains me because Apple are a much better company than Samsung and really shouldn't get bullied by them. But hey, that's what happens when you get lazy. I'm sure if Steve were around he would know how to deal with Samsung.

I miss Apples competitive spirit. :(

You got the hate down good for you big guy!

Yes. you really do.

Wow, it can do that!!!

I already liked the larger screen of the GS4. But photos that smell like ribs may clench the deal.

You're joking right?

You clearly missed the "I'm a Mac" campaign.

Nobody missed it, but in the PC market, Apple is the underdog by a huge margin so they were able to do it without looking petty or like the playground bully. Likewise, Apple was poking fun at the PC, not PC users. Yeah, some people took it as an insult to PC users by inference, but regardless, there were no direct slams on PC users in the Apple ads. So at least Apple was maintaining a modicum of dignity with the ads.

Apple has not gone on the attack in any market where they are a dominant player. There is no "I'm an iPod" ad. There is no "I'm an iPad" ad.

Samsung, by contrast, has been bizarrely insulting toward iPhone users in a very direct way in their ads by depicting them as clueless hipsters or sheep-like consumers. Also, Samsung leads Apple in terms of sheer volume of phone sales so they are not, by any stretch, the underdogs in the market the way the Mac was against PCs.

So, just a lot of hair-splitting on my part? Maybe, but marketing is all about nuance and hitting just the right tone. In my opinion, Samsung is going on the attack in a way and context that makes them look like bullies.

The right way to attack as an underdog is the way Amazon does it. The ad where they do the side-by-side with the Kindle/iPad comparison ending with the huge price difference. That's an attack ad that maintains some dignity. Samsung should take notes.

I do have to say I love how consistent they make the GS4 look in the ad. My experience with Android phones has been that they have these "awesome" advanced features but that they are designed so poorly or work so inconsistently that it's not usually worth the effort to use them.

Still, it's definitely teh awesomeness that Android users can wolf down ribs and still answer the phone. Nothing like being on speaker at a noisy, outdoor party and talking through a mouthful of chewed up meat to make a phone call perfectly crystal clear. Such a great feature! I really have to switch.

This is exactly the sort of ad which Samsung would create but Apple just wouldn't. If you ask me, it's the ad created from a guilty conscience.

I agree. I don't think there's any point in a retaliation ad. Think Apple looks much better now "rising above it all".

The "I'm a Mac" ads were when Apple had to take swipes as their market share was so low. Not the case with iOS.

----------

Agree.

We first saw this in the "I'm a mac" ads, where that horrible young "actor" was juxtaposed to an older, balding, out of touch John Hodgman.

Look a lovable old person who just doesn't get it! How cute. I am young but it one of the things that turns me off to Apple's (and now Samsungs) advertising. It's not that I feel bad for old people, it's just that it's terribly un-clever.

Is Hodgeman that old? Don't think he was being portrayed as an old guy in those ads - just a square, unhip corporate type.

The Missing Samsung App

I thought of so many ways to make this ad funnier and more effective.

Yeah, I though they could have shown the App that allows you to check on the Samsung Washing machine to see if it had gone up in Flames yet :D

Judging from the number of responses the commercial was a smashing success. I seen this aired at least 5 times during the nba playoffs. Not even one Apple commercial.

It actually requires you to have authorized it once with the other person, from that point on it doesn't require permission, but I think it needs you to touch the button.

It was a hit when I was watching the game. That's what commercials ar efor, generating buzz, and that Samsung has done.

They did also show the Apple camera commercial a handful of times, no one seemed to care.

I thought the features look pretty darn useful. In my opinion still far ahead of iOS, of course that may change with iOS7, we'll have to see.

As far as Samsung attacking Apple, let's be fair, Apple has done this in the past with Microsoft, and nobody in the forums had an issue with it. Let's try not to be hypocrites shall we? Why was it ok for Apple to attack Microsoft?, yet when a company decides to attack Apple we get on the defensive.

I've never been the type to kiss butt of any company, If I don't like something about Apple products I don't have any issues with admitting it..
Props to you. I see some of these features as innovative as well. I've bought every model of the iPhone since day one but it appears that of late Apple is simply playing catch-up. I can only hope that iOS 7 brings new and useful features. Otherwise I'm gone.

From the way i see theres 2 options

1.) Apple did indeed do a similar poking fun at PC In that case, sammy would be copying the idea of apple.

2.) Apple did NOT do a similar ad. In that case, sammy has no ethics, morality this that bla bla bla

My fellow fanbois, pick ur argument :):):)

Its the whole bully attitude, if you can't be creative then pick on someone.

Most reviews have not been kind to the S4.

Samsung is creative, try telling apple that. They steal features from Samsung and Android then want to sue for it

Wow, Hate doesn't even begin to describe your post. Easy does it fella, it's only a phone.

Samsung makes some great hardware as in the spec but the appearance and OS leave a lot of room for improvements.

You SAW a phone with great sound, heard a phone with a great display too did you?
Just bustin your balls but really I'm wondering about the OSX folder thing. Why not just copy and paste to the icon in the get info window?

*********************************
Well, it was a picture of the phone's front face (rather elegant too). I did not hear it, I read it's description as being stereo. I won't go into the time I saw an invisible UFO.

The "get info" icon paste solution gives you a square thumbnail that looks like ... well ... a thumbnail - not a folder. By contrast, iCoco gives you an image of a hanging folder emblazoned with a translucent image of your choice. When opened, it looks like it has been spread open a bit. When closed, it looks flat. If I want to keep a folder of jokes, I drop a picture of a clown or something onto iCoco's window and I get a hanging folder for the ha-ha's. For airline tickets etc, a jpeg of a cartoon plane flapping its wings and smiling. See??? You should try it, if you have a machine with Rosetta. It's free. I was sure Apple would buy it and build it into the next OS X !!!
You see a window full of folders that are instantly recognizable and to my satisfaction: instead of nazi pringles and 1984 irony. Unless I want that! I can get lederhosen you know. Then I can put the identical ashen, zombie face on all the folders and the teeniest possible captions on them and I can go blind and shove a fork in my arse as well.
It's all about buying an Apple computer so I can have c-h-o-i-c-e.

NNaaahhh!

But I forgot: it's all about forced, flat uniformity so that Yve can crouch, at midnight, atop the highest sky-scraper, in gargoyle fashion, and laugh hysterically at the little people below.

You know, you never see Apple making fun of Samsung phones or the company in their ads...
I guess it's just a good gauge of class.

EDIT - WOOSH. Sarcasm. I guess you guys never heard of it? Jesus you people are dense.

Dude. Poor form. After you get called out, you pretend you were joking?

Uhhhh, oh yeah, just kidding guyzz!

Love it. And by the way, if your location really is Apple headquarters, than I hope you were NOT being sarcastic, because that's even worse.

The most clever thing about it is...

In my experience, when new features have been added to either Galaxys or Iphones, they sometimes have glitches that have to be worked out through the feedback of the users.
For the Iphones, it was Imaps and Siri to name a couple. For the Galaxy, it's the consistency of the swipe gestures. Most of the time they work perfectly. Sometimes they don't.

Neither platform is all things to all people.
I also didn't see the commercial as making fun or insulting anyone. No one, especially a commercial can draw out of you what you don't already possess inside. But it seems as though some are taking it very personal.

In my opinion, what Samsung is doing is trying to highlight every feature they can think of while Apple is quiet. I'm willing to bet that eventually Apple will adopt some of these features into their next OS simply because there will be a demand for them. (Then Apple may be viewed as a copycat).
Apple has already given the world a larger screen. I wouldn't mind two versions of the next Iphone, one with the 4 inch screen and one larger. At least consumers would have a choice. As for now, Apple is saying, "Take the 4 incher whether you like it or not!"

Now that's bad marketing.
