Lol true apple did make fun of pc.

The difference being that Apple made fun of the PC, not PC users.

Samsung is making fun of the users of rival products by depicting them as clueless and out-of-touch.

Seems like a bizarre approach to marketing your product, dumping on the people you hope to turn into customers.

Also - I don't see much wrong with the ad. Yes it's long, etc - but it shows some clever uses for the phone. And it's not like the entire ad or even most of it is slamming other phones (or iPhone). It's ONE element to the ad.

They show the Samsung 'bumping' with another. iPhone has done it for years.
They show the Samsung turning on a TV. iPhone can do all that. Mine can work my Entire house Home Automation, my Onkyo Amp, my Sony Blueray, my Apple TV and also works (albiet not well) with my Samsung TV
They show the Samsung being answered with a gesture (several times). My Samsung TV does that too. But hardly ever, and when I pick up a coffee, the volume goes up. Gestures are very much still 'in beta'
Finally, you can take a photo with it with over-saturated colours. I wish the iPhone could do that...

Did they show it hit the ground? No, because it won't last as well as the iPhone. The build quality of the SGS4 is well below par.

But credit where credit's due. They put hot chicks in a pool, so they'll definitely sell phones.

Very average add Samsung. No class whatsoever.

congrats on letting fanboy'ism get in the way of thinking...

Android is the creative one, not samsung

Not at all.

Android comes up with some stuff Samsung improves upon it

Wow, in beta? Maybe own a GS4 before you criticize Samsung for ADDING features. And the camera is the highest rated on the market, but of course you'll come to the rescue when you hear something is better than your precious iPhone

Not to mention S-Beam, S-Voice, and S-Health

Did I not compare it to the Samsung TV that I DO OWN? It is rubbish and not ready for wide distribution with any creed. if Apple did that (and they did with Maps) they'd get rightly caned. But lets not talk about how that guy had the phone stationary on the table, no movement, no change in backlight. The best thing about that ad were the ribs.

I agree, reports do say that the camera IS slightly (only slightly) better than a 6 months old design of the iPhone. But the ad shows them taking photo. Killer Android/Samsung App hey?

Greezy rib fingers would make it hard to operate phone with touch. I admit that. Unfortunately, I spend far too little time with hands caked with BBQ and grease.

Your phone has to be out on the table, face up. If it's in your pocket or face down, the gesture is useless. So the premise is that you have to prepare for the possible need to use your phone before getting your hands messy.

This is perfect for me when I know I am expecting a call (business) and am cooking or cutting my hair. Sometimes I work on my bike and don't wanna touch my $800 device with road grime. Works well for me.

I'm tired of this reply. Didn't realise a "PC" was a company.

Getting pretty bored if this site.

I'm getting bored of replies dissecting why Apple's campaign was the best and how Samsung is being a bully. The ad execution is horrible but saying Samsung is bad because they poke fun of iPhones is dumb.

Just my opinion. But samsung isnt bad because they poke fun at the iphone. Samsung is bad because their phones are junk.

Let's see Apple 4S Samsung S4. No that's definitely a different name. Very creative on Samsungs side and useful it's big enough to double as a sanding block.

Since when as Samsung ever been accused of doing something original? Oh, that's right it's the gestures thing isn't it. Dang.. Even Microsoft get it to work properly on the Connect. What the hell are Samsung doing so that their phones and TV's don't work the way they are advertising? They'll bring out a Maps App soon just so they can screw that up too.

Yeah. I love that my iPhone works in the winter with my gloves on. Oh wait.

They do make touch friendly gloves you know. I have some that work really well. And based on some of the reviews I've read, probably better than this air gesture.

Why do they have to make the commercial so boring though?

The commercial did what it needed to do. It pointed out that the iPhone does not do things the new phones do.

People that know technology know at the end of the day, if you don't have an iPhone, well then, you don't have an iPhone and that's not worth all the bells and whistles you get in the Android world. Staying away from the Android market is enough for me to never get an Android.

Though those features are the same features the HTC ONE has, which happens to be the phone I'm currently looking at. Very close to pulling the trigger on one of those.

The HTC One looks sweet. The iPhone 5 looks sick in comparison. Box shaped, tiny screen, antique OS? No thanks.

Looks like i can't connect Galaxy tab 2 to my mac for sync, backup or file transfer... I've tried to do this with 'android file transfer' but no luck...

The vast majority of people have no problems. But then again, they own regular computers.

It's okay, because PCs at the time ran on a wide variety of operating systems made by scores of different companies... oh wait.

Apple are the market leader, the target is on their back and Samsung is taking aim.

I really don't see what the fuss is about. Trying to make favourable comparisons between your product and a competitor is a staple for US adverts.

A lot of those 'air' gesture features fail to work properly. They're good for proof-of-concept and showing off, but otherwise so unreliable you won't be using them normally.

You mean like Siri.... LOL!

I have to speak either like Prince Charles or Jason Statham (his mockney voice) to get it to do anything. It cannot adapt easily or reliably to 'normal' regional accents.

So..., and I quote "They're good for proof-of-concept and showing off, but otherwise so unreliable you won't be using them normally."

However, does not stop either of the two phones from being good handsets overall.

Competition* (GS4, HTC One, LG Optimus G Pro):
Highest display quality, larger display size, best cpu performance, good gpu performance, mature OS with multitasking, good app selection, good battery life, good cameras.

*In fairness, these are obviously 2013 phones.

None of those phones are any good. The screens are way too big unless you have hands the size of dinner plates. The only reason they sell is because poor people buy them.

Wow that was one dry commercial. So much so it felt like it ran way too long.
All that to show off some cool gimmicky features I'd personally would never use.

Air Gestures - my phone is always in my pocket = pointless cool feature

bump to share photos - there has NEVER been a time I wanted any photos off of some ones photo roll as they are all random pics of stupid crap and or selfies. Nor have I EVER WANTED to share any of my photos with anyone. = pointless cool feature. However highschool kids seem to love this feature.

TV remote - My harmony remote never gave me a reason to switch that duty over to my phone = pointless cool feature

Video photo stills - will be used no more than sepia = pointless cool feature. However highschool kids seem to have a lot of fun with this feature.

I'm really beginning to think that android specifically cater to teens and twenty somethings who have absolutely nothing better to do with all their free time than to sit around at pool parties and the like playing with random phone features together. Because you know, what else is there to do....
