I'm not sure how music can be considered under rated. If a great many people enjoy the music, it will sell well and be rated highly. If very few like the music, it will sell poorly and be rated negatively.
Do you mean instead that the music is under appreciated (I personally don't like most of the artist you have listed but that's just me) ?

As far as I can tell, the recent comments have drifted away from the purported theme of this thread and are mostly now just additional pontifications of the OP's own worldview.

I’m nor well versed in all things Smash Mouth, but really enjoy their Astro Lounge Album (1999?). I might have to rewatch Mystery Men.
