I'm not sure how music can be considered under rated. If a great many people enjoy the music, it will sell well and be rated highly. If very few like the music, it will sell poorly and be rated negatively.

Do you mean instead that the music is under appreciated (I personally don't like most of the artist you have listed but that's just me :) ) ?

The 6 minutes version of OMD's "Secret" is better like Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" and B-Movie's "Nowhere Girl"...

Everybody has different preferences for music. I understand. I post a lot of video game music that is not everybody's cup of tea.

I have that album, and loved it when it came out and still love it - great choice; my brother brought it back to me as a present from a trip to France.

Agree that there is a distinction to be drawn between "under-rated" and "under-appreciated."

And, agree, too about much of the music that that has been posted on this thread.

Mind you, The Breakfast Club had a terrific soundtrack, while I doubt that anyone would seriously attempt to argue that Dire Straits are either under-rated or under-appreciated.

As far as I can tell, the recent comments have drifted away from the purported theme of this thread and are mostly now just additional pontifications of the OP's own worldview.

Not particularly insightful.

Agree completely, and well said.

Wait a second, this is not underrated, and it’s Rock’n Roll, which does not please me to say that’s dead. :( Lately, I’ve been having to endure what passes for popular pop music at my local gym. There is all sorts of rock from the last 50 years which provides better motivation to exert one’s self. :p

...and Paul Simon= incredible. What’s this doing in an under rated music thread?? :D
