Did anyone hear?
The previous version is 359.3
Yes i saw that, kinda lame that Apple has a really fast reaction to fix issues that disturb their own interest instead of more important things like the user guest account bug..
Apple breaks jailbreakers' hearts with iPhone 3GS patch.
The people/departments that work on the iPhone wont be the same as the people that work on SL..
Still, they could have waited next major update to fix this..
yeah its a pain. my daughter wants a 3GS for xmas and I bet she was hoping that I could JB it like her iPod... lets hope that Dev Team & other find a new exploit
i got my brand new 3gs 2 days ago and jailbroke with blackra1n ok jsut in time it looks like
I hope my phone doesn't develop issues forcing me to get a replacement. I love things the way they are now.
This also probably means previous models will go up in resale premium
I can't wait for Android & webOS to mature...even more so now
I wonder when they made this change, and how it relates in time to Chronic Dev's decision to publish the exploit to appease their donors.
That they will. Just like 1st Gen iPhones that shipped with 3.9 Bootloader (week 44 under)
They say the phones started shipping last week but i'd guess they've been working on it alongside 3.1
I can't blame them though its probably to address the piracy issue but there you go
Yeah i remember that
Does anyone know if there is a way to tell in the store if the 3Gs you are looking at will jailbreak or not. Also, are all new 3G (not s) units that AT&T sells still jailbreakable? Thanks!
No you can't tell as far as i know and the 3G models are all forms of hackable
I understand that part of the serial number indicates the week when the phone was manufactured, so you can check the serial number and look for one that was manufactured before the new bootrom was released. I forget which part of the serial number is the week number, but hopefully someone else knows?
GeoHot released the Mac version just yesterday, maybe the article was written before the Mac version was released.
is this BootROM something they can add in a future software update through iTunes, or is this only going to affect one's being produced now.
No.... it has to be factory flashed.
Actually i forgot about that...you're right. The week number can be an indicator. The number after 889 is what you're looking for. If its for example 88924 then its a week 24 or if its 88921 then its a week 21. Thing is Apple/retailers rarely let you view the serial number before opening the phone so it would be very difficult to tell...unless you order online i suppose
Im not sure but it begs the question why havent they done so if possible with all previous updates. I guess its something that has to be encoded into the hardware at a factory but i could wrong
Serial number is printed outside the box. I'd think it'd be harder to confirm if you are buying online... How would you even ask for them to check the serial number before shipping?
You can check the box before opening and simply return unopened under the 14-day policy
This is great info, thanks!
So I would be looking for a 3Gs made before week, say...40? Maybe earlier to be safe?
Does the 3Gs automatically ship with the latest software? Will that be a problem?
So if I bought my 3gs on launch day this won't affect me right?
I dunno best bet would be to ask someone who bought a 3GS in the past 2-3 weeks and see what week number they have. Its safe to say 3GS phones will be shipping with at least 3.1 by now...if you bought from Apple. Other retailers may still have older stock
No it wont
This does not affect current phones.
They had over a day to change it before they posted it.
