New Siri fails

Here’s something that used to work before iOS 27 and does not work for me now at all.
I have a playlist in Apple Music titled simply “Rock”.

In the past, I was able to say, Siri, shuffle my rock playlist and it just worked.
With the new Siri, this command results in Siri selecting a random decade of rock music to play for me, and not my Rock playlist.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any other failures you’ve noticed?

Is this from an Apple Music subscription or just your local purchased music?
Have you tried giving the playlist a less generic name? Would it still do this if you asked to to shuffle your Cornhole playlist, for example?

It happens on Apple Music. I asked Siri “play my favorite songs” she just plays a song named “favorite songs” by spookybands. But if I stress on the word my then she shuffles the favorited playlist.

She fails on all of my Apple Music subscription playlists. It’s pathetic. It always worked before.

New Siri overthinks things. Instead of doing action like playing a playlist, it tries to think about it. Apple has a lot of work to do before this is ready for the masses.

I have the exact issue! Have reported, but it’s funny that all with all these complicated things it can do and yet something this simple that old Siri did it struggles with

So I just installed iOS 27 developer beta 3, and these requests are now working.

Dictation is still pretty bad, same as it was with the first two developer betas, but I’m glad that they fixed something…

it would be worth a try to rename your playlist to something like Johns_Rock, and try again

Siri now plays my favorite songs as expected on beta 3. Seems fixed.👍

same worked once (the second time trying funnily enough)..

I can't say "play music by pearl jam" or "play black by pearl jam" or even "play black by pearl jam on apple ,music" they all say "uh oh, something went wrong. try again later....

if I say "pearl jam" it plays them but u can be song or album specific it seems. also that's a crazy trigger as I might want to do another action other than play music..

I have in several other post. When I ask Siri to message someone i often get several different options instead of what I actually said. When I tell Siri to message that I will be there in 10-15 minutes, I get a response in the form of “is it 10 or is it 15 min”. This happens all the time but never before. I will ask to play specific artist but some other artist similar will play. A message dormant require clarification almost every time. Just send it

I just tried a couple of those texting scenarios and seemed to work fine now. Used to get asked with options in b1 & b2 but gets it right on b3.
So I’d have to say Siri is much improved with b3 on my 17P.

These kinds of issues have existed since the original Siri first arrived. I can remember going through a parallel scenario to what OP describes fourteen years ago, right after upgrading from my original iPhone 4 -- which had super basic voice command support that at least worked -- to a new iPhone 5 with Siri... and my own playlist name wasn't quite as generic as OPs, either. That was long before I ever considered subscribing to Apple Music.

My own playlists have never fully recovered; it's a stereotypical game of cat and mouse.

(An aside: To be fair... the issue also isn't isolated to Apple. I have the exact same issue on an Alexa device in my garage.)

I had the same issue. Siri would play everything but playlists. 😂

I just used siri to create a shortcut to start a specific playlist and shuffle it.

Super easy and now works like a charm.

I think these are the types of things it's supposed to be capable of now. My fear is that we're going to be stuck with half-baked for another 3yr while they tell us how hard it is to protect our privacy.

Totally agree. Privacy and functionality aren’t opposed. Someone in Apple needs to get that team to ship working software. I’ve had a HomePod since the beginning and it’s gotten worse, not better, over the years. Used to be certain trigger words (but only those) would work 100%. Now it’s like just random all the time.
