Harmony Elite is £500... if you can find one. The idiots at Logitech have stopped making Remotes... despite having NO competition.
Still doesn't change the fact that $60 for the remote apple is offering is a joke (and yes 3-500 is as well).

Why not? My Dish Network remote had a feature 10 years ago allowing me to press a button on the set-top box and have it page the remote so I could find it in the couch cushions.

Adding "Find My" to the remote would have been absolutely brilliant instead Apple gets a swing and a miss. If they can put a U1 chip in a $29 AirTag that runs on a watch battery then how can they not put one in the Siri Remote or even the new iPad Pros -- it makes no sense -- it borders on idiotic.

The number one thing we lose on a daily basis is the Siri Remote -- every morning we have to search for the thing because my teenage daughters have misplaced it or my 4-year-old son has hidden it. The thing falls between the couch cushions so easily, its ridiculous.

Also, when "happily using your iPhone" have you ever noticed that you CANNOT control the volume on your TV. Not too happy if the volume is down way low or really loud.

You sound like a total apologist trying to justify the absence of the #1 requested feature in the new Apple TV remote.

People who doesn't care about missing U1 chip probably don't have young ones or elderly in the family. Even adults do lose it, i can't find my Sony TV remote which is way bigger in size than ATV remote.

How frequently do people lose their remotes and keys? Honestly I've never been unable to find my remote for more than about 10 seconds. It'd take longer to launch an app than the couple seconds to check around the couch, there it always is.

You must not have kids.

"It also appears that the 2021 iPad Pro models are lacking a U1 chip as well, though the new ‌Apple TV‌ does indeed have U1 support."

TL;DR: in contrast to what this article says, the just-updated Apple TV does not have a U1 chip, nor otherwise support Ultra Wideband technology.

@Juli clover, @arn @HexMonkey: Juli Clover's statement in the article appears to contain incorrect information, according to Apple's specs. While indeed the the new, 5th generation iPad Pro (the 4th generation from March 2020 too) lacks the U1 chip, **the same is the case for the new (6th generation) Apple TV** as well.

Specifically, under the heading of "ports and interfaces" for the 2021 Apple TV, the following are listed -- note the absence of U1:
  • HDMI 2.14
  • 802.11ax Wi‑Fi 6 with MIMO; simultaneous dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz)
  • Thread
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Bluetooth 5.0 wireless technology
  • IR receiver
  • Built-in power supply

In contrast, Apple's specifications or product pages for each of its 5 (I think) devices that *do* include a U1 chip indicate this:

P.S. what is the best way to let a story author or the MR editorial staff know that an article is likely in need of correction?
P.P.S: not sure, but maybe Juli Clover mixed up U1/UWB with Thread, which the new ATV does indeed support, and which is new for the ATV line.

You underestimate people’s ability to not see what’s right in front of them lol

Feels like a missed opportunity but maybe they wanted to keep cost down

I wouldn’t usually challenge this but it’s obvious the couch skit was done to demonstrate the degree of accuracy in which you can find your lost items and keys generally go everywhere on a person showing that if you do lose your keys (out in the world) you can find them with that same degree of accuracy. Apple did not create this product or network for you to be able to track every conceivable item that you may misplace one day, but by all means attach air tags to your Siri remote, your lighter, your favourite coffee mug & and your wife if you can’t keep track of where these things end up 😜
True but you know that if Apple had included an AirTag in their new Siri remote, they would've showed the guy crawling past an old Siri remote lost inside his couch. Swing and a miss for Apple.

Just because I don’t join the “I hate every decision Apple makes “ cult here doesn’t mean I’m defending them. And if I want to defend them who are you to judge me? That’s my business. Last I checked this place isn’t called “ I hate Apple dot com”. If you can’t handle it talk to another member that’s in your camp.
Lol. Ok. Defend on.

Guess I’ll wait for a third party remote control case that has a slot to hold an AirTag.

Mind boggling how they left U1 out - perhaps it’s intentional to get you to buy a Tag. I don’t foresee an update anytime soon given this one took nearly 4 years.
