How frequently do people lose their remotes and keys? Honestly I've never been unable to find my remote for more than about 10 seconds. It'd take longer to launch an app than the couple seconds to check around the couch, there it always is.
Always funny seeing people assume that any use case that doesn't apply specifically to them doesn't/shouldn't apply to anyone else. People lose keys and remotes or anything small that's moveable frequently.

That's all great - but why could it not be used for both?
Yeah, since people may lose the bigger things not in their home far less frequently, so tracking things in your house would be something you would probably use more frequently and if you use it frequently and see the value you in it then one would probably want to invest more in things that typically would be lost outside the house albeit less frequently. I use my Apple Watch to find my phone god knows how many times a week in my house.

Can this remote be purchased separately? I don’t think the new ATV 4K is worth upgrading over ATV 4K I’ve already got, but I’d like the remote.

*Never mind, found it on the Apple site.

I agree that this is a missed opportunity, apple could have gained new customers just for having a Find My ability with the remote. I suppose, while it has bluetooth, it does not have wifi, nor gps, bluetooth alone doesn't provide location.

Exactly. How are people losing their remote? Maybe learn to put it up when you're done with it?

These kind of responses indicate no kids around to take any and every small thing and play with it and leave it under something when they’ve lost it or toss it or hide it or “bury” it or....

And people need to stop defending Apple at all costs. Like you said they are a business and only care about your $$$
Just because I don’t join the “I hate every decision Apple makes “ cult here doesn’t mean I’m defending them. And if I want to defend them who are you to judge me? That’s my business. Last I checked this place isn’t called “ I hate Apple dot com”. If you can’t handle it talk to another member that’s in your camp.

We didn't have an issue of lost remotes when our kids were small either...

... but we put stuff like that up when we weren't using it because we didn't want the kids trying to eat AAA batteries or battery doors.

Launch an app? No... Just ask Siri, via HomePod to locate the item, in this case the remote.

Family Feud host: "Name one thing you ALWAYS lose"
Contestant: [smashes buzzer] 'YOUR TV REMOTE!!!" [fans erupt in agreement]
Family Feud Host: [looks at board] "...Survey says......."
[board lights up 'TV Remote" as the number one answer]

The Magic Mouse thing is a bit strange. How cool would it have been to add Qi charging. I still would want the charging port for faster charging and quick pairing to a new device but oh well.
I honestly haven't used a Magic Mouse since the came out with the Magic Trackpad.

Even if you think it would be a dumb feature, it was a dumb marketing move for Apple to NOT include it in the remote. Especially since they were released at the same event and it would have made a segway into the new ATV remote. "Hey and speaking of lost things, how many times have you lost your tiny thin slippery ATV remote in the couch?"

What could it possibly add to the cost if Apple is selling the tags cheaper than iPod socks.

I'm sure someone, if not Apple, will release a combo case to hold a Airtag at the end of the Siri remote; airtag is narrower & thinner. Apple gets even more revenue that way form the folks who have trouble keeping up with their remotes, and don't incur unnecessary production costs with the folks who don't.

(and cost has very little to do with pricing non-commodity/luxury goods)

Even without some sort of buzzer, there is this framework called "AirLocate" (iBeacon anyone?) that could be used to find the remote (or any other Bluetooth LE device) using the iPhone (even without U1 chip).

I have three kids under 10. We’ve gone for multiple weeks without finding the apple remote. End up using the remote app on the phone.

You're nicer than we were when ours were young.

Remote disappeared? They got to find it and put it back where it goes.
