What glitching problem? It looks ok ... maybe for Christmas.
I really wish they would fix the glitching problem. I have to reboot my AppleTV three or four times a week. It is very annoying. But, nobody at Apple is paying attention to a product that probably drives more consumer loyalty than any other product in their line up. Crazy ...
Don’t your TV have HDMI cec? Please tell me this new remote offers more control of the TV itself. I hate having to dig out the big remote to change inputs on my TV.
Yes you can turn on and off you tv with the new remote and even mute you tv with the new remotePlease tell me this new remote offers more control of the TV itself. I hate having to dig out the big remote to change inputs on my TV.
It does. The Apple TV can turn it on and off no problem. The issue is when my nephew comes over and plugs in his PS4. The PS4 turns the TV on and changes the input, but won't change it back and turn the TV off when he's done playing. Always have to keep digging out the TV remote instead of doing everything either automatically or with the Apple TV remote.Don’t your TV have HDMI cec?
My TV switches input when I turn on the ATV, same if I then turn on the SkyQ box.
It is weird. I do not think I am running any weird or unusual apps. I watch mostly movies and series purchased from iTunes, a few ATV+ series or movies, Netflix and Prime. We get our news from the CBC app. I have an LG OLED E series TV. I find the problem seems to occur more frequently when I have watched HDR content. I should create a video and post it. It is quite annoying. Rebooting the ATV always fixes it for somewhere between one to three days. The only other app running is the screen saver which is photos from an album on my mac. I have noticed occasionally the screen saver sometimes acts weird ... screen goes black instead of showing the photos. What glitching problem?
Can’t say I’ve ever had to reboot my ATV4K, well at least not in the past 12 months anyway and I use it daily.
iTunes, ATV+, Netflix, Prime and CBC and the photos screen saver is pretty much everything. Playing HDR content seems to make it happen more often. Are you using a specific app that is causing the issue? I’ve got two ATV4Ks and have never seen any issues like that.
get a harmony hub and forget about all that headache. I tell Siri to change to different devices now and it switches everything for me. You can find hubs for 50$ on sale usually. The app I have in HomeKit on my Mac is called harmony bridge. That gives me the harmony hubs devices in HomeKit I can set to their own scenes with names or have them trigger when I come in the door.It does. The Apple TV can turn it on and off no problem. My TV is from 2013, so it might have just missed some new control functionality through HDMI.
I assume it'll be the same as the current Siri remote, which can control the TV/AVR volume with either IR or HDMI CEC. It usually works automagically, but you can also explicitly program it. See:What I’d like to know is how it controls power and volume? Is this an HDMI-CEC thing or can it actually be programmed properly - I need it to be able to turn on / off my Sony TV buy to control volume from a denon receiver. Guess I’ll have a wait of a few more days.
Yeah not sure if Apple made the best choice with that. I wonder if it will be hard getting used to. I could be wrong but I think the center button in the ring also acts as play/pause. If so, I may just start using that.I am a little annoyed that the Play/Pause button has been relocated, no need for this in my opinion.
Put the mute button where the siri button was.
Are you sure about that?I have the new remote and it DOES NOT have an option to control the TVs power with the new power button. The new button just mimics the sleep functionality. So it still relies on HDMI CEC to control power of the TV which is unfortunate as my TV does not support CEC to turn off (only to turn on). The new mute button however can be programmed as per the volume buttons to control IR in the same way the previous remote did. Hopefully they add power to the IR.
Yep, only settings for Volume up/down and mute for IR controlAre you sure about that?
Apple clearly states something else on their website:
"Control your TV or receiver via IR or CEC."³
³: Powering on and off, switching input to Apple TV, controlling volume, and mute.

Maybe you need to set it up in settings?
