Mine just arrived today and it’s much better than the old one. I hope the developers will update their apps soon because in some tv apps I can’t switch to an another channel yet

Just to take note: I can confirm that. I really hope they bring IR power off in the future :/
I updated to the 14.7 beta and also no dice. Same as 14.5. Interestingly the scroll wheel like an iPod click wheel to scrub forward/back also doesn’t work. In 14.5 or 14.7 … c’mon Apple what’s the go?

scrub forward/backward with the scrool wheel does work: just press play/pause and keep your finger at the same position on the wheel. It then appears in the UI and you can scroll.

(might only work with a few apps: it definitely works with the apple tv app)

Was thinking you could 'learn' the IR power off button with the new remote and was bummed I couldn't turn on my TV with it (it turns off with the Apple TV). Had another look through the TV settings and saw the auto on was off this whole time haha..

Hopefully skipping ahead on opening/ending credits is better for me now, reason I got the remote was when pressing the sides to skip, half the time it would bring the swipe down menu controls.

Can you program any IR into the mute button? Say I wanted to program switching my receiver to the TOSLINK input my computer is plugged into... Will that work?

EDIT: Yeah, I NEVER actually use the mute feature; I just pause what I'm watching. And switching to that input is literally the only button I ever press on the receiver's remote. Moving it to the ATV remote would be paradise. :)

Remote just arrived here! Ordered it on it's own.

Just got the new 4K appletv. I want to use my Harmony Remote with it, and use the new SIRI remote that came with it, on my previous generation AppleTV. How do I pair this new remote, with the previous generation appletv?
Directions in post above did nothing.

I love this new remote. It combines the simplicity of the original silver remote with the functionality of the crappy Apple TV remote.

Pros:
No problem figur out which end to point to the TV.
Arrows for precise cursor movements
You can still swipe. But get this, the touch surface is slightly concave. You reach the edge and you instinctively know to stop swiping. No more swiping right off the edge of the remote.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

This has been so freaking frustrating, I had no idea you had to hold your finger down on the scroll wheel for a second for the UI to show up, what a frustratingly inaccurate feature when you start to spin and it acts all wonky. I really hope they fix this to just work instantly.

The disney+ App doesn't like the new click wheel. They uses there own player. This player seems to be have sone bugs.
I had also problems with the old remote. After a while, I can't rewind and I must restart the whole app.

I just got the remote today, and so far I have two issues that have me pondering returning it.

1) The touch surface just... doesn't seem to work very well. For example when watching video, I have to click to get the scrub bar and forward-or-back-20s icon, then click again to trigger it. It seems random and inconsistent. I ended up turning off the touch surface for now and just using clicking, and it actually works a lot better for navigating and seeking through videos, though not being able to scrub is a big loss.

2) Why, oh why did they have to make the bottom of the remote curved??? The old Siri remote wasn't curved; it could sit flat on a surface and you could easily use it without picking it up. The new one wobbles all over the place if you try to use it like that. What the crap were they thinking? This is even worse than the touch surface issue because at least that could conceivably be fixed in software.

It feels nicer in my hand and has the *potential* to be a lot better than the other remote, but these issues really make me sad. I was hoping for better especially after spending so much for it.

Any way to program the power button to sleep the Apple TV? So annoying this power button will shut down the TV but not the steaming box.

I think I'm sending my new remotes back and sticking with what I have.

All I really wanted was a mute button and the new one has a bunch of neutral/negative changes I don't care for.

The price isn't helping -- if they were $30 each maybe I'd feel differently... I don't know.

Really bummed. I was expecting a much more clear "win" with the new remote

The buttons feel cheaper to me - the play/pause moved when it shouldn't have - I'm accidentally hitting Siri side button when using the arrow/touchpad...

My new siri remote is coming today- I think I will defently like since its thicker and grey - not black and I think it will be easier not to miss place
