My One is sitting unused because Sonos can't seem to get airplay 2 working on it without cutting out every minute or two. Total disappointment.

I had the same thing happening (music skipping & dropping) on both a Playbar and on a One. Turns out Sonos devices are very sensitive to interference. I had to disconnect my smart TV's ethernet connection into Playbar's 2nd ethernet port AND turn AirPlay off on all nearby devices except the one doing the streaming. Music streams perfectly and continuously now, but really, this is a couple of nasty hoops to have to jump thru and totally on Sonos.

I did test last night, linking my 2 sonos to my ATV via airplay 2. No issues. Worked flawless. Then set it to come through my stereo system and my sonos at the same time. No issues there either.

Thanks for your analysis of my network. I test it all the time, its doing fine. And are you reading the other posts? There are literally at least two other people reporting they have the same problem. It’s not everyone is fine and only me having problems. But sure, what is your theory that 18 months later Sonos is updating the speaker when they never have updated any other speaker in their history like this in under 5 years?
At least.....TWO?! OMG! I kid. Yes, I have read the other posts and searched online for other user experiences. Most people are not having an issue. Though keep in mind, sonos does say they don't support syncing their speakers with homepods(as of 7 months ago). However it's working for most people. The question is why does it work for most but not some? There is something unique about the setup for the few that are having issues.

Why are they releasing a new one? Who knows. To handle planned future software updates? Could it be solely for airplay 2? What are the hardware requirements for that? It's all speculation at this point. Until someone gets their hands on one and can test. Amazon updates their speakers often, doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Have the three people with problems contacted Sonos about this? What did they say? They might have a different solution for you today. No?

There are countless threads on the Sonos support site. Since each Network is different all of the onus ends up falling on some sort of Network issue or congestion.

Chuckles. Sorry, it's absolutely stupid to suggest a speaker needs to be updated as often as a computer. Sonos sold us on the Sonos One upgrade for Airplay 2 compatibility, and just a mere 18 months later (not years as you say) Sonos says, 'oops that was not enough, let us tweak it.' Since the introduction of the Sonos One to my network of Sonos products, my network has become LESS reliable, LESS stable, and now I guess I know why. I was paying for SONOS to beta test.

This is not about incremental updates of premium products, this is Sonos acknowledging they put out an inferior product and rushing to correct that.

Anyway, carry on. Regardless of what you think, my main point is that the MR article is overly rosy and complimentary of SONOS when they should at least question whether this is crap or not. Maybe your friend wrote it?

And btw, what other SONOS product was 'incrementally upgraded' in 18 months? Answer. none. Not even close. Nothing less than 5 years.

Well the sub IS 7 years old, and does not support Airplay 2. Though, it's not likely to be used alone so perhaps thats not as necessary. I do agree though after 7 years an update and cost reduction would be welcome.

I have the same problem. This is likely the problem they are addressing. Unfortunately for us.

Airplay 2 wasn't available 18 months ago. So SONOS didn't sell a beta product just b/c it didn't have something that didn't exist at that time it was sold. So funny how people like this guy expect products to just manifest features before they exist, or support new features that were unknown during a development cycle. mind=blown

I love the people quick to criticize without knowing the facts. Sonos One, Gen 1, does support Airplay 2. How do you explain that? And when it was released it was an advertised feature because Airplay 2 was very much in development then and known to SONOS.

While you are making up answers, what other SONOS speaker got updated in under 5 years with absolutely no housing change?

mind=bored

Well since According to Sonos, the new processor and additional memory do not currently represent any new features or noticeable performance changes between the Gen 2 and the original One, which is now called the Sonos One Gen 1. But these upgrades can enable new features specific to the updated speaker in the future." Let's be honest Play 1, Play one first gen and Play One gen 2 all have the same sound quality. I think the biggest take away on this is, it will have a purpose one day. No one upgrades the hardware on a just because. If you buy Sonos one gen 1 now because you want to save a couple of bucks, then you likely should not have bought it. They have been struggling with getting Google on their devices and for some reason I think when they do the performance will be a whole lot better. Same likely can be said for Airplay 2 or any future release from Apple. You can bet they have knowledge and a plan, we as the public just don't know it. Remember these are smart speakers, not the speakers of yester years, despite sounding the same...LOL Who know perhaps they are working on their own voice Ai. It seems to be the thing companies all do today. Believe me I am no expert on the why, and i won't pretend I know the why but no company puts in better hardware JUST BECAUSE. You can bet "THERE IS A PLAN" The market is fierce. I just bought a Google Home max 340 bucks (2 for 600)that's almost half of a Play 5 and two is cheaper than one play 5. Canadian price. At the end of the day It plays what I need because I am an agnostic person when I buy 3rd party services. Netflix, spotify, etc . Sonos surround 2200.00 I can do much better systems for that price and have better sound supported formats. The rest of the work has caught up and in some cases surpassed sonos. I wonder what they will do next to innovate" Even Apple knows they have to get their Apple Tv on TVs because services are the future of profit and Tv are just that, agnostic and "so call" smart.
