I purchased both the new Speck Black Satin and Clear See Thru for the new MacBook Pro 2nd Generation. My thoughts:
Fit and features are the same for both. They go on very easily and fit like a glove. They allow the full movement of the screen unlike the incase design for the older macbooks. They allow access to all ports, including my Kensington lock which works fine with the case on.
They both obviously add some weight and bulk, but not as much as one might expect. Still, it is something of a sacrifice to lose the sleek feel of the newer MacBook Pro. But, I would be far more saddened if I badly scratched the MacBook.
The Black Satin looked and felt very nice. However, and there always seems to be a however, I didn't like the way it showed fingerprints. I also wasn't found of the way the Apple Logo shined through with a purple cast. Some will love that look.
The Clear also looks very nice in my opinion. It does not detract from the look at all. I actually like the glossy appearance it adds. Again, some will not like the glossiness.
I had read of dust or dirt getting trapped under the case and causing scratches on past Speck Models. I don't know if the redesign has had an effect, but nothing appears to have gotten under mine. Nevertheless, it is very important to thoroughly clean both the MacBook and the case before installing. This is also why I particularly like the Clear version, as I can see if anything has gotten under the case and remove and clean if necessary.
All in all, very pleased so far.
I am intrigued by the shield option ( Invisible Shield, BodyGuardz, etc ) as I would protect from scratches without adding bulk. However, I am concerned if the adhesive would have a long term effect in the Aluminum finish. If anyone has applied a film I would like to know how they liked it and if removed, how easy and any residue?
