Are these “new” monitors from Apple mainly an example of “en********ation” ?

Old was 32”. New are 27”. ?

Do they test anything anymore before releasing it ?
I do recall reading a comment that was pro-refurbished. The logic being that due to the items having a problem, they have to test the whole device to make sure it’s working properly. Whereas the brand new stuff only gets a random selection to spot check.

On a positive note, at least the boxes will fit in our recycling bins.

Haha, yah - neet and tidy cardboard to throw into the "recycling bin".

I do understand that the fancy versions of the Studio Displays have super good colour correction for using in pre-press print work maybe or for a "reference" point in broadcast quality video - but wow, just the normal monitors seem really high priced. If they could just make them a decent size and price I would be inclined to match up 4 of them that I would be able to run on my incoming new awesome MacBook Pro Max. But at these prices, I would sadly be needing to consider some off brand cheaper solutions. It would have been cool to have the cute thunderbolt 5 simple connectivity maybe. I'll wait for a while before I pull the trigger on a set of monitors to make the ultimate workstation. I have an old "anthrocart" that would be ideal to use again as a workstation - I know it would really be wonderful to have multiple monitors again and maybe really do some Final Cut Pro projects that have been piling up.

Does it even matter - nobody is buying these products. Apple Studio Display basically same product as 2022 release and XDR overpriced. These items will be collecting dust on the Apple stock shelves.

Too bad the "affordable" one doesn't have more than one input or >60hz. I love the form factor and speakers. Oh, those speakers are lovely.

But that price for those specs? Whew.

still wanna know the processor
I'm guessing A13 Bionic still, they're being awfully quiet about the specs, plus the A13 is capable of running iOS 26

I bet the first gen would be absolutely fine running this firmware. It's just greedy.

Doesn't the existence of a Day 1 Update suggest people at Apple are testing it before releasing it? If they waited to test until after release, it would have a firmware update weeks or months later.

Edit: You would have loved the Apple III. It had a fairly extensive problem with chips unseating themselves due to heat. Apple's official "Day 1 fix" was instructing users to lift the computer two inches off the desk and drop it to pop the chips back into place!

Or maybe the original Mac. The original Mac shipped in January 1984 with System 1.0. It was quickly discovered that copying files could lead to disk corruption. Apple pushed out System 1.1 by May, which was a super fast turn-around at the time.

Or maybe Mac OS X (10.0) in 2001. Apple's new operating system shipped missing key features (like DVD playback) and suffered from frequent kernel panics. Apple pushed out the 10.0.1 update just three weeks after launch to stabilize the system.

Or maybe the original iPhone, which received its first update (iPhone OS 1.0.1) just a month after launch to patch significant security flaws in Safari.

Bugs are not new at Apple or any company. They existed during the Steve Jobs era (see all my examples above). They exist now.

I don't recall ever owning a monitor which required a firmware update, day one, or ever.
They might not need but I bet if you check, an update is available for most monitors. I've had it on LG, Dell, HP, all the big brands have had updates available. One weird thing is that often those updates only work via Windows, you can't use a Mac to update them. I've had to borrow someone else's Windows computer to update some monitors.
