New Survey Says Amazon and Google Have a More 'Positive Impact on Society' Than Apple

Apple, who brought us freedom of information to our hands versus amazon who has 2-day shipping.

Sorry, Apple wins.

Please, "brought us freedom of information to our hands" sounds like something straight from a PR release. If you want to believe that, fine, but don't claim it as fact because I know for a fact that the internet, ie "freedom of information", was already in my hands before the iPhone.

Google has a more positive impact? Yikes, society is in a bit more trouble than I thought

I guess it makes sense in that most people probably use something of Amazon’s everyday. We, like 100 million others, are Prime subscribers. I don’t shop at Amazon much (though my wife does), but I do use Prime Music and Video almost everyday. I don’t use Google at all, short of Google Earth Pro (the real version that Google has stopped updating) for work. I will live with the slightly worse results of Bing to keep away from Google as best I can.

Google has no legitimate decent search engine equivalent.

DuckDuckGo? I stopped using Google half a decade ago. The Maine school system changed the default search settings on all computers from Google to DDG, so kids are less likely to get stuck in the mindset of "search = google". If other schools do the same, Google could start feeling an impact as younger generations stop using them.

Anyways, I'm shocked Amazon ranks so highly. They certainly have a lot of impact, but I'm not sure I'd really call it a good impact.

Microsoft is also really weird. I'm using Windows right now, but it's really pretty irrelevant - everything is on the browser, which is Mozilla Firefox, not IE or Chrome. Although on that note, Android + Chrome is probably why Google ranks so high.

I'm like you; I don't use Google. Have you tried DuckDuckGo? I just love their entire view on privacy, and I think it's a decent search engine.

Woo hoo, another Bing user! :) Kinda cool to cash in on a $5 Amazon gift card every few months too. I too had an exodus away from Google. OneDrive is absolutely amazing. The only thing I can't leave is Chrome at least on Windows. On my iOS devices I'll use Safari.

Alll of you are missing the bigger points here. I know this maybe an unpopular opinion. But nevertheless here it's:
Google:
1. Can you think of search any other way? We don't even use the word search anymore. We say "Google" it. That much of an impact it has put.
2. Gmail: all.of you who are complaining, I bet 90% of you use Gmail.
3. Map: do I need to say anything here?
4. Industry changing techonology: large scale database concept, golang, angular and many more. And they don't use it for proprietary development like swift :)

Amazon:
1. Shopping: I don't have to say how much it has changed your life. You don't need to bargain. The price is always less.
2. Kindle: best reader out there. You know how competition tried and failed.
3. AWS: I don't have to tell you what it has done the technology world. Most startups are possible today because of AWS.
4. 2 day shipping: before Amazon, nobody knew you could have such shipping.

You can see how society has been impacted positively by these two companies. Apple: more money for less tech.. that's the impact they are giving it to the society. They are teaching us that once you have your customer by balls, squeeze them as hard as you can. All they can do is moan and groan! If you think that's positive impact, I am sorry.

The Masses are much more concerned with “Gimme what I want when I want it!” [Amazon] than “I trust a company that doesn’t find out and sell everything it can possibly learn about me [Apple] versus one that does [Facebook, Google].” In fact, sacrificing B facilitates A, which is a deal with the devil The Masses are clearly happy to make.

The survey question seems not particularly relevant, the design seems incomplete, and, my opinion, the CEO question is just plain stupid.

People don't seem to understand that Google is an advertising company disguised as a tech company.
That isn’t really fair. Google is undoubtably a tech company. Yes, their financing is primarily from advertising. But, just because they may prioritize research around this model, it doesn’t make them any less a tech innovator.

They both have made an impact for sure, I think most people just don't see it as "positive".

Irony.. you can't do a single thing on your idevice without Apple telling you. The more torubling for society is apple where people are not realizing how much they give out their own moeny to be controlled by a company.

They create products and services for the sole purpose of advertising revenue. They may innovate in some areas, but I feel that it takes away from the "positive" portion of the survey.

This survey is ridiculous.

Anyways, wouldn't it be hilarious if the Amazon robot was like the MSE-6 mouse droid from Star Wars? Hilarious and annoying. A physical robot could have its uses for those who are less mobile, and ultimately for those who are just plain lazy. As for having Alexa in every room around the house, we already have that: smartphones.

People don't seem to understand that Google is an advertising company disguised as a tech company.
Did you miss the Facebook's congressional hearing where Zuck had to explain how their service is free? If not, read that and apply it to Google. And if you still think Google and /or Facebook are ad companies, then you have to understand what is technology.

Of course they're ad companies. That is their business model when they decided to monetize. Facebook and Google both vacuum their users' data, build profiles and sell it back to marketers. When innovation is motivated by advertising dollars, and each creation has to exist to support that bubble, they aren't selling technology; they're giving away malware.

Amazon:
1. Shopping: I don't have to say how much it has changed your life. You don't need to bargain. The price is always less.

Wrong. Amazon is not always less - most of the times they are not less at all.

2. Kindle: best reader out there. You know how competition tried and failed.

Really? The Nook was actually quite good.

3. AWS: I don't have to tell you what it has done the technology world. Most startups are possible today because of AWS.
Renting server space has been done before. And even then AWS has had it's share of issues and is more like a roach motel than an actual good thing. Easy to get in and insanely hard to get out of.

4. 2 day shipping: before Amazon, nobody knew you could have such shipping.

Seriously? We've had overnight/2/3 day shipping since the 80s. And the "local warehouse" shipping model was pioneered by Sears and even to a lesser extent places like Service Merchandise.

Amazon is nothing new or special and overall a drag on society.

Apple is making some pretty amazing headway in Health technology, and I believe these advancements will pave the way for the future of healthcare and medical tracking. I don't really see how Amazon is having more of a positive impact on society, but maybe I'm missing something.
