I was surprised to see this thread. . I've been on windows for a while before switching to OS X (Tiger) a few years ago. I'd update but damn macs are expensive!

Anyway, I love finder and how it's set up. It's much more clean looking, not so cluttered and a lot easier to use for file browsing and moving from directory to directory than windows ever was. I guess everyone has their preference though.

Finder has Icon View(great for pictures/thumbnails), List view, and Column view which I use most often. List view works well for sorting by name, type, size, or something. Use column view with 2 windows (one above the other) and you can move between 10 folders or more and drag/drop between 2 windows -- how is that not more efficient?

As for spring loaded folders...I guess some people prefer it but I hated it. I'd try to drag something and it would open causing my to throw it within a subfolder of the folder I originally wanted it to go in and files get lost that way. Thankfully I could turn off that option.

So turn it off. Bit late I guess, but this has been an option since I got my first Mac running Panther.

I did turn it off, that's why I said "Thankfully I could turn off that option". I'm assuming you missed that part, or misunderstood it.

I too was surprised to see this thread. I have been using pcs since 1992, and converted to mac 2 months ago. I never want to see icky explorer or the gross looking control panel in windows ever again.
