I actually didn't know that, thought we could only add a playlist through Apple Music and listen to that via Bluetooth while my phone is away from me. Thanks for the tip.
An obscure example of this: last week I was in a forest in Asia, far from any civilisation, with my phone in a bag of rice after getting it wet. I started getting texts on my watch and frantically untied the bag to check my phone as I thought it had turned itself back on too soon, but it was dead!

Took a while to figure out that my friend with a local SIM had turned on his hotspot and the watch had automatically zapped onto it - almost had a good ol' ghost mystery on our hands!

Glass-film touchscreen and new bands? No way! Midnight Pacific time preorder for me!

That's nuts lol. But I'm still having issues receiving calls/texts. I read directions on how connect it via wifi but still a no go. Hmm...

For most people, an Apple watch is almost useless. I don't need yet another screen alerting me about text messages and emails.

Actually the killer feature on the watch is the fitness tracking.

Also, I've weaned myself from checking my phone all of the time and you realized how all of society has their heads buried in their cell phones.

The second generation works underwater.
I think they mean touch screen functionality while under water - not just waterproof or water resistant. I would love for the phone to be used when my hands are completely wet or phone is underwater as well but this is probably a very niche market for Apple. Besides divers and people like me who take a lot of baths, who really needs to operate a phone submerged in water?

I have the Series 2 because I like to swim and run without my phone. While a thinner, more power efficient model is welcoming, I want significantly improved sensors before upgrading. The now discontinued Microsoft Band 2 is still unmatched as far as sensors go, and I'd like to see Apple focus on their sensors.

I have the Series 0 and will be upgrading to Series 3. This is a daily wear/use item, so putting it on two-year upgrade cycle makes good sense. Frankly, one-year upgrade cycle isn't that unreasonable.
Me too. My series 0 has a bad mic so I stopped dictating texts. It never worked perfectly so I'm eager to see if they enhance Siri enough to make series 3 a solid improvement in that area as well as others.

That being said, if Apple ever adds a camera for video calls I'll buy simply because video watches have been featured in so many old time sci-fi shows and movies.

really? i'm the opposite, I find that the alert for txt msgs one of the most useful features. I can quick glance to see whose txting and chose to ignore or respond, without taking out my phone.

I find the built-in phone features makes me feel awkward ... I just hang up or sometimes just answer and quickly say, "i'll call you back in sec.."

They have to improve the mic on the watch and the iPhone if they want us to use Siri. Siri can only work with the User Interface it has, and UI is the mic. I expect they will because it can't escape their notice that Alexa works consistently in a way that Siri does not. And it isn't the programming.

I'll keep saying this until my face turns blue. The Watch is a groundbreaking device, and while it feels like we are in the "PDA years" right now, wearables are going to be an absolutely massive category once the technology matures in another few years.

Don't forget it's only a wifi connection that the watch is using, so it would only be iMessages and FaceTime Audio calls that come through (I think). Can't say I've ever noticed it happpening other than that one time to be honest, I'm only ever without my phone at my gym, which doesn't have wifi.

I swear if Series 3 rocks the same design / chassis I'm going to flip out.
Assuming you mean 'flip out' in the negative sense, then prepare to flip out.
A round chassis won't accommodate the existing bands, and more people will 'flip out' over obsoleting their band collection than would care about round.

Would you prefer a round face because that's really the only big visual change you could get. I think you would also lose space which on a small screen like that would significantly affect the usability of some apps. So in other words, you want your next Apple Watch to look like a Samsung smart watch.

Been testing out with incoming iMessages and nothing. Oh well, no big deal really but still a nice feature if I can get it to work. Maybe it's the WiFi connection.

The killer feature that would get me to upgrade is any kind of cell connection.

I have an original AW now, and I love it, but I'd like to be able to ditch my phone, at least while running. But certain people need to be able to contact me.

can anyone explain to me how "glass-film touchscreen" is different than "touch-on-lens" and why it matters? just bought a series 2 and can't imagine this would be a huge improvement of any kind.
