Almost as if Apple is intentionally leaking this stuff anymore....

Absolutely no reason for Apple to intentionally leak this stuff, regardless of what tinfoil hatters think.

It has a substantial impact on Apple earnings. Due to the leaks, iPhone 7 sales were flat during the first half of this year and Tim Cook mentioned it a couple times in recent earnings call.

Has anybody used a 4k hdmi switcher? I've been using a matrix 4x2hdmi splitter for years now with the current appletv to two tv's.
Not sure how well they do with 4k content might need to upgrade to a different splitter for this

Hmmm...Does it contain support for 1080i, so all the British/European shows on Netflix don't look weird when motion occurs? IE: When person walks or runs? Yeah, didn't think so.

What are the chances the iPhone 8 camera shoots 4K in HDR? Does the technology even exist? That would be a dream.

I've got an LG 65" OLED and quit using my Apple TV due to lack of support. I can't wait for this update!

I got a 4K Roku in the meantime and the interface makes me desperately miss Apple TV. I can't wait for this to come out.

what? lol. sell your old tv already

Killing me softly!!!

I would love to update to a 4K ATV purely for Plex, but my HT Amp only supports 1080p, so whatever the case, it will be useless. The only option would be to route another HDMI cable directly to the TV, or use an HDMI switch, and a fibre optic audio cable to the amp, but that's a royal pain in the backside. It could be worth it though! :D

looking into 4k switches? I have to do this also my matrix 4x2 wouldn't pass 4k I don't think. It does 3d fine

New feature: "and now with a remote you DONT pick up upside down every time!"

I remember when apple was obviously leaking certain things to certain publications and people would come outa and say "no way they would leak it!"

Yeah man. You're totally right

Except that time was a long time ago.

Leaks make sense when you're the underdog or if you're introducing a brand new product category to gauge public interest.

When your product is already the gold standard, it makes zero sense to put on the brakes by leaking info.

It's the same reason why Tesla is anti-selling the Model 3. When your product is synonymous with the word "EV" you don't need to halt Model S sales by leaking info about the Model 3's massive 75 kWh battery pack.

No, I have a Mac Mini server from 2012 and it decodes HEVC 1080p movies with Plex and streams it to the current Apple TV like a boss.
With transcode, and another lossy-lossy conversion, and cpu/gpu overhead.

Vizio sells 4K for a pretty good price.

$700 for a 50"
Thats pricy, my 65" 10bit uhd LG, was only $650 last fall. A 50" ought to be well under 500. TVs are commodity now.

Edit, 400 with arguably better smarts than AppleTV due to amazon support.

So if I don't have a 4K TV this upgrade is essentially worthless right ? Just watch Apple included a superior remote to it and makes that remote only work for 4K TV And the TV iPhone app requires iPhone 8 to work
Don't think we know until the product launches, eh?

Why so negative?

So I'll need this new ATV to screen anything in that new HEVC format?
Pretty sure only the 4K stuff will use HEVC; so, no.

So, without leaks, people blindly bought newly released iPhone models no matter what but when there's leaks, many people decided, "eh, I don't see the big deal, so I'll hold off buying now" ?

Confusingly, yes. I'll say it this way, "Why buy the current phone when the leaks show a really cool, newest bestest thing EVER and I don't have to wait very long and anyway my old phone is only 6 months old. I think I can wait."
