It's coming. There can be no doubt. It has even bipartisan support.
Just because two noobs agree on a subject does not make it a good idea.

That very hypothetical case sounds like a security failing on Apple’s part. The question is, how does the side loading work. If you have to install another "App Store" from Apple's App Store, then I would assume this would be ok. But if you can install a new "App Store" from a website, or link, then someone else installing malware from a separate app store could cause it to send emails or texts to contacts and those unknowing contacts could be infected with the malware, even if they never went anywhere but the official App Store.
I don't think many folks truly understand what's happening here. This is great. If you don’t wanna install from a third party App Store or don’t wanna sideload, then just don’t do it.
How is Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo getting a cut if I buy the game pre-owned through 3rd party stores like GameStop, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc.?That’s not how gaming consoles work the console maker not only gets a cut from every physical sale but developers can’t release software without being vetted and reviewed by the console makers as well
What problem are you having on macOS?
And people keep making this silly argument.
Do you honestly believe that if developers could sell their apps outside of Apple's app store that they'd completely abandon the Apple app store and miss out on the opportunity to reach the 1.65 billion plus iOS users?
🤣
Is it though? When there is zero oversight to what can be done anything can and will happen.
Which is totally unfair. They already secured the iPhone from this by not allowing it in the first place. It's not in anyway shape or form their responsibility to solve this problem congress wants to create for them. That very hypothetical case sounds like a security failing on Apple’s part.
I prefer having a single payment system and a single point of access to find and manage all my apps.
It‘s just a bill, not law. Even if there was widespread support in congress, which there isn’t, there is no way it will be introduced before the outcome of the Epic vs Apple court case…. and even then it will end up in the Supreme Court.
Yes, and the fact that Epic (a private company) who is 40% owned by Tencent (controlled by PLA) is pushing for this the hardest will likely come into play before this is over. It‘s just a bill, not law. No. But for different reasons. macOS has a very small marketshare compared to Windows. So there isn't as much incentive to target macOS. Their biggest bang for the buck is Windows. With an opening up of iOS that is going to provide a new large market for them to target.Has it done that on macOS?
I personally would rather see Apple forced to host some apps for free in the App Store, or not charge for subs, than have sideloading forced onto the platform.

Not if Apple is forced to open up installing apps via sideloading, there would be no way of enforcing security on side loaded apps. That very hypothetical case sounds like a security failing on Apple’s part.
You are mixing up security and privacy. Two diff things.I would love to hear people say they don't want this because it makes iOS less secure, but allowing Apple to scan your images and messages and possibly upload them to the government, that's OK 😂😂
Nope, you people really stretch for straws. All apple has to do is touch a button and see that there are non-App store apps and say, "sorry no warranty, no help." Apple already has the infrastructure in place and checks apps with macOS. It would take very little to do it for iOS.Cool. Apple will now have to hire even more people to man their Genius Bars when people bring in malware laden iPhones and go "I sideloaded this game...but it mess it up with Moose porn malware...fix it..."
Apply for a job now, they're going to need it!
