Still looking for confirmation from someone else. I am NOT doubting the OP. But it's possible something was unusual about his iPad.

Can anyone else confirm that they have downgraded without having shsh's on file?

no problem what so ever.

Since I don't seem to be getting anywhere with this I will try another approach.

Has anyone tried to downgrade WITHOUT shsh on file and it DIDN'T work?

I'm pretty sure apple still sign the previous version of firmware for a week or so in case there is problems with the newer firmware.

it's only after they stop signing the firmware that you need the shsh on file.

Not sure what is wrong with you I have responded two times now. I did this very procedure which i also documented on previous page and had no problems what so ever last week when I did it.

Let me repeat that: I had no problem downgrading last week.

atomicbatteries: as I said above, I do not doubt you and I understand that you did it with no problems. The reason I was digging is that it SHOULD NOT have worked, so I was trying to find out why.

I think thar cRuNcHiE has come up with a plausible explanation.

Read the whole page he linked to and you will understand why it works. I did the same downgrade and it worked like a charm. :)

I think so too, just tried it now with no luck. Thanks for the explaination though atomicbatteries :)

When did u do it?

Today, with no luck unfortunately.
The link MacManiac76 quotes makes it sound like SHSH blobs are needed, which atomicbatteries was lucky enough to avoid. I believe there might be a couple of days leway "just in case" as cRuNcHiE mentioned but it must only be a couple of days (ie it's just too late now!)

I did it today with out using shsh.

I simply used a prior clean version of Itunes, on another computer and used the original release firm ware which I downloaded with the link provided by atomicbatteries.

When it was finished restoring, I activated the iPad then jail broke with last version of spirit.

When it was finished I could then go back to the newer version of itunes and transfer my music and books back on to it.

Done deal, no problems.

Don't see why there would have been.

Can't hurt to try in any event, right?

Awesome, sorry to sound stupid - But could you do a little step by step guide for me of how exactly did you do it? It would be fantastic if i'm able to downgrade as my ipad shipped with 3.2.1 on it.

Did you use an old version of itunes to restore (and if so, what version)? Were you DFU mode or just recovery mode (or neither?). Any help would be fantastic, and I'll give it a go tonight! :)

Edit: tried on an old version of itunes but just cant get passed the verifying with apple stage of the restore process!

Old version of iTunes think it was 9.0, whatever one was out when Ipad came out. I made sure there was no trace of any other versions on my computer. Opened iTunes, it recognized the iPad, and I hit restore in order to direct it to the old firmware and hit ok. It restored, and then I used spirit to jailbreak like I did the first time.
That was pretty much it.
If you are continuing to have a problem, as a another friend of mine did, he got a hold of windows computer and installed a clean copy of itunes and then jailbroke on his mac once it had restored.
