New Verizon vs AT&T Data Plan Comparison Tool

I have a 21% FAN discount that eliminates the outrageous fees and taxes on a cell phone bill. I am on an individual plan right now.

Two things:

First, I think the biggest value is for family plans that also use mobile broadband for Tablets and Laptops.

Second, what is the word on Tethering? Does anyone know? Extra cost?

In my opinion, the BIGGEST question with the new share plans at this juncture, is how will FAN discounts be applied? VZW is currently screwing people to the wall with those discounts b/c they (the discounts) are only being applied to the account access and not line access (if I remember correctly). What is to be determined IMO, is how AT&T is going to apply the FAN discounts to these new shared plans. It's certainly possible (this is AT&T after all), that they will only be applied to line 1's phone charge. :eek:

FYI, tethering is now included with both AT&T & VZW share plans at no additional charge.

Thanks for the info. Then it seems like I might as well just tether my phone to my iPad to save the $10/month and the $130 on the iPad itself. The only time I have my iPad and not my phone, is when I am at home... And naturally, I have Wifi then.

Okay, assuming I choose 4 Gb and 2 smart phones (70 + 40 + 40 on ATT):

Would I get 21% off of:
-All $150?
-$70+$40 (just my line + data)?
-$35+$40 (Just my line + half $ data)?
-$40?

In the near future, I will be adding my fiance to my wireless plan. Thanks.
 
So once these new plans start will it be impossible to get an iPad with the 3gb $30 data plan? I wanted to get the next iPad once it was released but I wouldn't keep data every month I would only use it when I needed it.

My apologies, I was referring to Verizon. I dont know how ATT works. For Verizon, you would just get the discount on the $70.

Yeah, seems like the FAN discounts are only applied to the data portion only. I'll update my calculator later to add an option to apply the FAN discounts to the tal.

I believe it's been shown that the old plans are still around. VZW doesn't make them obvious, but if you actually go through a purchase online, you should be able to find the old plans when you get to that step.

ATT's press release stated the old plans would still be around.

I don't see how they can drop the monthly tablet plans ever.

Your discount is only taking off the Data plan. So if you get the 2GB plan for $50, you're only saving on that. So for me, I'd only be saving $10 as supposed to the $24 I'm saving now. Pure ********, IMO.

I'll say it again to be clear (mainly cuz I'm mad). you're saving on whatever DATA plan you choose, not the $40 for the first line.

For those of you asking all the questions wouldn't it be more appropriate for you to contact your carrier simply because no one can answer your specific questions as this is a new service from att.

They don't know anything yet. AT&T wont have formal training till sometime next month apparently.

For 2 smartphones with 700 minutes shared, 2GB on one and unlimited on the other (the phone with unlimited hits about .5GB at the most) and 250 texts on one, 1000 texts on the other, we pay about 160$ with a 15% FAN discount on Verizon.

With the new shared plans, we get unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, and 6GB of shared data for about 150$ with the 15% FAN discount.

It's a win-win as I get more data and I get about 120$ back each year, including free hotspot!

I spoke to an AT&T rep the other day. She told me that the FAN discount would apply to the data package plan, and the account of the FAN discount holder.

So with the 4 GB plan, and two smart phones ($70 + $40 + $40) and a 20% FAN discount... You would get 20% off of $70 and $40, which would bring the total of $150 down to $128 (before taxes).
