wow digging up a thread from the past ;)

I envision a sudden spout of enthusiasm that this has been brought back to life 6 months after it died - with people suddenly thinking it actually happened .... followed by disappointment when they find out its just a thread ressurection.

The issue had just again presented itself as acute in my life - needing to choose OS, hardware and also software to suit. It boils down to using Google Chrome with Offline Mail & Calendar OR MS Office with Outlook.

Certain experiences with Machttps://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1829062/ cause me to widen my scope. I need to make an informed medium-long term decision.

I too deleted Office 2011. I strongly object to Microsofts new licensing practice.:(

Um... you are aware that they still sell standalone copies without subscription right? You don't have to subscribe to Office 365 to get Office...

Nowhere near Linux or Mac - my two pet OS's - is there even the remote dream of an MS Outlook equivalent come alive. This really is where both of the BSD babes lost the war as they never really went into battle.

Get me a standalone replacement of MSO with Outlook and I am a happy man.

Not to mention OnenOte!

Why do you want to use Outlook so badly? It's nice because it's a fully integrated app with calendar, reminders etc, but for that reason it's also a bloated nightmare at times.

This is what I'm hanging out for.

I moved from Windows to Mac last year. I was so disappointed when after buying Office 2011 to discover that I had no way of sync'ing the calendars between the Macbook Air and the Mac Mini that I'd purchased (along with Office 2011).

Since then I've been using Thunderbird and the Calendar addin Lightning to sync cals between computers and iDevices using Google Calendar.

Oh, and I miss Access not being on the Mac platform, too...

Have you had a look at http://www.companionlink.com or http://www.sync-mac.com at all?

Sync-Mac doesn't sync Outlook calendars that I can see. It is supposed to sync Google Calendars, but with what I don't have a clue.

In any case, I sync GCal now with either the native Calendar app or with the calendar plugins that Thunderbird uses.

My aim is to be able to use Outlook on either my Mac Mini or Macbook Air and to sync their calendars with my iPhone and iPad. But it seems to be an impossible task.

Thunderbird

I have had endless problems with Lightning in Thunderbird, it just would not sync with Google Calendar, etc. This had been coming along for about a year now. A few days ago, I formatted my hard drive, installed the latest Mint 17.1, updated all and set up Thunderbird again. As if by magic, everything in Thunderbird just works. So now I do not need Outlook at all, which solves my problems.

Good to know that getting it to work was as simple and easy as deleting everything and installing a different OS. :/
