This is why we needed Apple to ramp up development of iWork to make it a genuine alternative so MS couldn't take forever to release new versions. I use Office but only because there isn't anything else as powerful.

is it me or has outlook looked the same as previous versions.

My 2013 outlook still has a similar layout and window pane setup as Outlook 2010, 2007, 2003, XP, etc..

Because it includes every feature one may ever need to use, no matter the specific user.

Apple's philosophy of simplifying its productivity suite makes its basically unusable in the workplace.

Ha, basically unusable in the workplace? What a laughable comment.

Heres something to change your way of thinking. I know of a company that ONLY uses iWork for their documents, presentations and spreadsheets. They do pretty well too, and absolutely steer clear of Microsoft Office. Can you guess who? Apple.

Anyone that thinks iWork isn't capable should go to Apple (literally, go in store) and get training. As they are very mistaken.

Nice! I use Outlook at work and definitely prefer it to Mail on OSX.

Why so?

I've also been a fan of the MS Office Suite for Windows. MS Office 2011 on the Mac is just garbage, let's be honest. At times I thought I would need to switch back to Windows just to be able to use Outlook to stay organised. Today, I use Apple Mail, Calendar and OmniFocus and I couldn't be happier.

What annoys me the most is that MS can't give us a more specific ETA of MS Office 2014 for Mac and share some previews with us.

MS is just stupid in so many ways, I believe during the Windows 10 beta, it's the first time MS is actually listening (or pretending atleast) to user-feedback.

Sad

but I'm still content with Office 2010. Have zero desire or need to upgrade, especially when it means being forced into some cloud subscription scam. I don't trust my documents to any cloud service that requires fees. Then they just hold your content hostage. I learned that the hard way back in the days when I used Flicr to store my image - every time it was time to renew I'd get flooded with emails saying all my photos would get deleted if I didn't pay the ransom. No thanks, never again.

No, it's not you. These new pics look the same as older versions to me. Just a flatter look and a blue status bar now. Those icons in the toolbar are getting quite dated.

But you'd trust those documents with somebody that does it for free. LOL!

There are more news and photos from Cnbeta. According to them, Office for Mac 16 will be released by first or second quarter of 2015.

And OneNote is also coming Mac!

[*]I never liked the ribbon. It seemed disorganized and bloated from the very beginning.

YES. I remember when Office '07 or whatever it was introduced the "ribbon" layout, and I never accepted it. It was ridiculously slow and complicated compared to the menus/toolbars layout of the .doc (2004 and earlier) era of Office and still is. I still use Office '04 if I'm not using iWork. And by the way, iWork's single toolbar + "inspector" window isn't much better than the "ribbon".

missing

Come on these most needed features: .....

1) A dedicated Archive button
2) Support for iCloud Calendars
3) Support for iCloud Contacts
4) Support for Outlook.com Exchange style Sync of Calendars like they give the PC users

I'm still using Entourage 2008

Strangely, I've never managed to get Outlook or Mail to work with my email account.

Apple can't hold Microsoft (or anyone else) back from releasing OS X software.

They can if it's sold in the AppStore. They can put in arbitrary delays.

I use Outlook at work and Mail at home and whilst I recognise that Outlook is a massively more powerful client than Mail.app, I don't like it.
But I'll will give it its dues. It is solid.

Mail on the other hand is buggy as hell.

One issue that I've had with Outlook is that there's no way to get a raw version of an e-mail for spam reporting. Have the later ones fixed that yet?

I hope it's full retina support and not the half-assed retina support they've added to Office:2011. It's mostly crap.

OneNote for Mac is incredible; hope it's like that and also isn't missing a bunch of features at launch (which OneNote did and still has some lacking feature parity to the PC counterpart).

I am forced to use office at work and find it a horrendous peice of software to use.
With the new flat look that yosemite gives it, it looks even worse! I'm so glad I don't have to use it at home too!

Hopefully it supports iCloud contacts. The only reason I don't use Outlook for my personal eMail is because of this and that pesky bug that sometimes deletes all the account information since the identity becomes "corrupt" (anyone else have this issue?)... And too much of a pain to copy the contacts and update them individually as needed. And hopefully it still supports Mavericks too when it's released.

I use Outlook for Mac now for my work exchange account and it is the best eMail program still available. Would love to use it for my personal eMail too.
