Maybe some of those aftermarket in dash DVD player with the flip out/up screens would make this. It could replace your stereo and stock GPS with a touch screen that is in concert with your iPhone.
Look up an address on the phone. Get in the car and it is ready to navigate to your last found destination. I was hoping something like that could have worked with existing Garmin GPS'.
hopefully apple sells a stand alone device that can be added to cars!
Looking forward to using this with my AppRadio 3. Already do stuff along these lines with it but an integrated implementation will be nice too.
Wish we could integrate this in cars that will not support iOS in the car.
That's a pretty unusual size to mount in a car.

As someone who takes mass transit and doesn't even own a car: this (and Apple Maps in general) is completely useless to me.
Smaller than the 17" touchscreen in the Tesla Model S, which I got to drive a few weeks ago. Of course, there's also the iPad mini.
Are those easy, cheap installs? I would venture to say no. I wouldn't want to just mount an iPad. I would want it built into the currently display area.
Is this expected to be supported through the third party (ie: Pioneer App Radio and the like) or will I have to buy a new car to get this functionality?
It's amazing that auto makers will buy into this. My dealer currently gets $300 a year out of me to update the maps in my built-in Navagation system, not to mention the big-bucks they charged for it in the first place.
It is expected, as 'Siri Handsfree' and Airplay is all third party supported.
I'd hope Pioneer has
1. New head unit coming out, hopefully slim-lined of all the other AppRadio garbage, and running just this.
2. A firmware update for AppRadio 2/3.
My wishlist.
1. 6+ inch touch (can't decide smooth responsive capacitive touch, or glove compatible resistive)
2. AM/FM/HD Radio tuner built in
3. Bluetooth audio.
4. iOS in the Car via wireless link, maybe using hybrid version of airdrop protocal?. For short distance, a new local place I want nav to find... I don't need a power link. Just leave device in pocket. Power hookup can be separate as far as I'm concerned, but nice option to have.
That's it. CD optional, not necessary. Line in, if it's hidden around back maybe for someone to route to their glovebox. I'd like a clean front.
+1
The true efficient, affordable, and convenient mode of transportation.
It's amazing that people who read and post on tech forums buy into built-in navigation systems. For a while, I would just buy a new Garmin every year or two and get the latest maps, and hand down the old one to someone else. Now, I have my choice of phone-based systems that are always up-to-date. With car stereo integration, there's really no point in a dedicated, money grabbing system.
Time to go buy a new car...![]()
